This post applies to Lightroom Classic and the Lightroom Ecosystem products.

Generative Remove makes it easier to remove unwanted objects and distractions with a simple gesture, even on complex backgrounds. For more accurate results, be sure to include the object's shadow in your selection and/or expand its size.

Detect Objects uses AI to find the objects underneath a brushed area. The masked areas will now appear larger than the Early Access version of this feature. You can also circle objects for quicker selection now.

We have also updated the spot selection experience to make it easier to manage variations, switch the fill type, refine the selection area, or re-generate as needed.

Batch updating is also now supported for Generative Remove spots.

First of all, I can't say how amazed that I am at how well this works. I use it often and it's amazing.

Two things I would like to see.

1. A way to remove window glare and reflections while still preserving the underlying image. I sometimes shoot from aircraft in varrying different lighting conditions. Recently we flew across the rockys and I took a bunch of shots out my window. I was trying to remove the larger reflections of inside the cockpit without changing the mountains outside, but as the AI uses surrounding areas and features to generate the fill image (at least I think this is what it's doing) I lose the integrity of the original scenery. As much as I usually like the result, I prefer to maintain the original integrity of the photo because I feel that I'm creating a historical record and want it to be representative of the scene I'm seeing, instead of artificiallly generated details.

2. I'd like to see a historical save of the generations of the AI.. There are times I'm hesitant to click the Generate button after looking at the 3 selections because maybe I've gotten the best one within those three, but don't know it yet.

Click the + button in the Snapshots panel in the left column to create a snapshot of each promising variant. Then you can quickly review the candidates simply by hovering the mouse over each snapshot in turn.

I have been using Generative AI to remove people from nighttime and interior displays (Smithstonian Institute); however, a darkish smudge remains after the event. It works well in daylight situations, such as the Arizona desert.

In lightroom classic, the "Create new mask" is very powerful, especially for selecting people.

If I can just remove some people or items from the mask panel, it would be amazing!

Please explain in a little more detail what you want to do, especially what you mean by "from the mask panel".

For example in my attached picture, in the mask panel, it detected 2 people, if there is an option on each person "person 1", "person 2", named maybe "remove with AI", then the people will be removed and generate AI background automatically, it will be much easier for me to use "remove panel" to select the person.

A ferramenta é interessante, sem dúvida e em algumas situações chega a ser eficaz.....
Digo em algumas situações e não em todoas, porque na mioria a ferramenta não remove o objeto selecionado, mas sim o substitui por outro de identica forma e ou objeto...

With nearly every one of the many dozen problem photos posted here, we've been able to show how to quickly remove the desired objects.

By creating a dust map (F22 of evenly lit surface out of focus), then use visualise spots, can you then generate a slection that can be saved as "Dust Map". Then instead of removing each and every spot manually, the selection can the be filled using generative AI to remove all the dust spots. From the attached image, you can see what a pain it is to remove dust spots manually.

Drawing straight line holding shift key does not work on first attempt. Second attempts and afterwards does.

In Remove and a Brush mask, you draw a horizontal or vertical line by holding Shift, holding the mouse button down, move the mouse, and release Shift and the button.

You can draw a straight line at any angle by clicking the mouse button, move the mouse, hold Shift, and clicking the button a second time. Subsequent shift-clicks will draw a straight line from the previous shift-click.

See the attached screen recording in my Mac LR 14.2. If the exact steps above aren't working for you, please start a new thread describing the exact keystrokes and mouse movements you're making and copy/paste the output from the menu command Help > System Info.

LrC 14.2, Windows 11 Home

The Generative Remove function has suddenly stopped working correctly. I'm trying to remove a small stick from an image. I drag my selection over the stick with a small brush. I doesn't select it all, but also selects a much wider area. I try to correct it with Add and Subtract feature, but this takes many attempts. When I'm finally able to try to remove, the results are terrible. What's changed, it worked fine until the recent App update?

I have Topaz AI downloaded on my MAC desktop. Itwas working fine untli it stopped. Suggestions please.

You've posted in a thread about LR's Generative Remove. I recommend you contact Topaz support for help, and if they can't solve the issue, start a new thread in this forum.

Hi, the generative removal feature in Adobe Lightroom Classic 14.2 does not remove objects, but adds other versions of the object instead.

In my picture it is a trash can, which I now have to remove manually in Photoshop.

Is there perhaps third-party software that can be integrated via a plugin that can take over this function in the future?

With the current update to generative Ai update, selections after being replaced now have a noticeable tone change from the selected area. Making it now obvious where things were removed. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm on v. 14.2.

Or does anyone have a solution?

Did you apply Remove on top of an AI mask (e.g. Sky or Background)? If so, do the menu command Settings > Update AI Settings. Otherwise:

Many have observed here that the replacements made by Generative Remove sometimes don't match the photo's tone or noise. To get better matches, these techniques sometimes help:

1. Adobe recommends applying Denoise before Remove. This can reduce the noise, making it more likely the replacement will match.

2. The replacement patch supplied by Adobe Firefly has a maximum size of 2048 x 2048 pixels. If the selected area in the photo is larger than that, then the replacement patch gets upscaled (and blurry). Try removing smaller selections if possible.

3. Conversely, try making a larger selection, even including the entire background. Upscaling of the replacement sometimes won't be noticeable then.

4. Sometimes there's a distinctly visible boundary where the tone or noise don't match. You can often use the heal tool around the boundary to get better feathering and make it less noticeable -- apply Heal in small brush strokes. Or use a Brush mask with maximum feathering, dropping local Texture, Clarity, and Sharpness to their minimum values. Sometimes, making a very raggedy selection around the object makes the boundary less noticeable.
