P: Ability to create a Custom Crop Ratio preset

LEGEND ,
Oct 21, 2017 Oct 21, 2017

Where is the "Enter Custom..." option from the old Lightroom and how do we get it back (see attachments)? I like to make my photos 1080x1080 for Instagram and was able to do this in the LR Classic version.

We seriously need a custom crop tool in Lightroom CC. If I want a 1x3 crop I should not have to eyeball it in any "professional" editing software. Or at least more preset options.

I agree, this needs to be added ASAP. It's pretty crazy actually that it doesn't already exist - I'm in Europe and the standard print/frame sizes are not the same as in the US and I have no way to crop without eyeballing. Ridiculous.

I've been on this thread for about 3 years and I just don't understand what the hold up is. I have voted and posted many times. We just want to create a custom crop and have the ability to save and name it for future recall. I'd like to see the the pixel dimensions or crop ratio as I am setting the crop. Or at the very least have some more crop options like 2:1, 2.35:1, 2.4:1. Having to eyeball a custom crop and make it the same for every picture is ridiculous.  I am using the Lightroom mobile app.

Hey Greg, I just tried it after the new update and you can type in your custom ratio now. What is your hold up with it exactly?

*greg_bergeron

That has been just implemented in the 4.3 version!

I don’t have a hold up. Adobe is not adding a feature that should have been in early iterations of the mobile Lightroom app. People clearly want it. Maybe it’s a premium feature or it isn’t available on iPhone, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Mobile is what we need to push for now but I also think we should be thankful that at minimum the desktop Lightroom client has finally been updated to give this ability.  Baby steps

Okay, the hold-up is the update is available on the desktop app of Lightroom CC. I'm sure mobile will be coming out with it soon as well.

@Rikk Thank you and the team for finally making this request a reality.  Now all we need is the ability to do the same via mobile clients and I think this thread can officially be retired!

I’m grateful for the responses, but I am definitely not using whatever program you guys are showing me, because I cannot make a custom crop preset on my phone. I  believe that is what everyone is here for, but please point me to the correct topic if I’m wrong.

*greg_bergeron this post is about Lightroom Desktop (Cloud-based) and this is where it has been implemented. You'll need to find a Mobile app post or open a new one.

Exactly. We need this on the mobile version too! Preferably faster than than the 3.5 years the desktop one took. 🙂

I started a post about this topic

(Custom ratio in lightroom mobile) in 2014. It was merged with this topic a few years(!) later. Forget it people, not in this live ...

Hi! Mobile user here, as someone who loves cinematic aspect ratios, I hope a 21:9 aspect ratio option is coming to crop soon. Up until now I've had to use another app.

Thanks!

This would be amazing and would really help in simplifying the process of editing anamorphic photos!

Hi, I am often using the 65:24 crop format when editing my images. Unfortunately I can't do that in LR Mobile, because the format is not in the list. Therefore it would be great if you could add it!

Alternatively, being able to explicitly define custom crop formats (by typing in the numbers) would also work of course.

Bump!

We sorely need this on the mobile apps for the iPad and the Android apps. It's really annoying not being able to enter a custom crop factor. Dragging the crop lines is just not precise enough.

Bump as well. Def need this.

In addition would be nice to actually be able to do the anamorphic desqueeze in Lightroom.

IOS and Android version of Lightroom have a 'Custom' crop option where you can choose from several ratios, including 5x4.

And a 'Switch Crop Orientation' icon to change 5x4 > 4x5.

I have had this issue for a while. In some instances I am using the feature in LR (Mac version) to crop an image to a specified pixel ratio. This is helpful (and somewhat necessary) for some blogs (mine for example, when I want to set a featured image for my self hosted WordPress blog) and it's convenient.
Now, as I am travelling, I am using the LR App (cloud) on iPhone and iPad for quick shots and quick edits. Great tool!! But I am missing just this feature. Right now, I am "eyeballing" it when cropping, but as there is a specified pixel ratio, I'd love to see this feature in the apps. I believe, it has been on the desktop version since the dawn of time.
Is it too difficult to implement it on the mobile version?

It's never been possible to crop to a specific pixel size in any version of Lightroom (cloud-centric or Classic), except by trial and error. All there here has ever been is the ability to crop to a specified pixel ratio, and that functionality exists in the LrMobile app as well as in Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Classic.

The ability to crop to a specified pixel size has been requested many times over the years, so your post may be consolidated into an existing feature request thread.

Hi Jim,

My mistake - an error in translation.
what I meant was pixel ratio!

This is possible in the desktop version, but I have not found it in the Mobil ones I'm using while travelling or out in the field.
example: for one task I want to crop to 1200 x 628 pixels. Eyeballing is currently the only option and I would be happy for a way to be more precise. Other than working on the MacBook.
I have not been able to discover that feature in the App. Are you able to direct me to the correct setting?

I can only see fixed choices or "custom" where I can drag, but not enter a ratio.
Would appreciate any help immensely!

Cheers,

Michael
