Thanks for that quick reply.

In Settings > Image Processing, I switched to Device and tested with the same result.

But I've narrowed things down a bit. I looked for what the two adjustments might have in common.

It seems that the issue is specific to the Auto Select Targeted Adjustment Tool setting. When this setting is on and either Curves or Black & White is chosen, the software crashes. However, when the Auto Select is turned off, the software functions normally.

Hi @André36678699dyam

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ Photoshop Beta Settings (Mac Ventura)
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings (Mac)

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings

Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut
With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

Happens on the just released non beta Photoshop 2024 (ps ver 25.9) update as well.

The 25.9 update added the Adjustment Brush as a new feature.

Hi @Jeff Arola testing here on both Ps release version and beta and not seeing any crashes or issues switching between settings or tools.

If you could share a video of your workflow with steps to reproduce we would be happy to try.

@André36678699dyam glad the pref reset fixed your issue.

To replicate enable Auto-Select Targeted Adjustment Tool for either Curves or Black & White Adjustment Layers.

Then anytime one tries to use Curves or Black & White with the Adjustment Brush Tool, Photoshop 2024 (ps ver 25.9) crashes on both Windows and Mac.

Resetting the Photoshop 2024 (ps ver 25.9) preferences made no difference on either Mac or Windows.

I am also having the same crash ocurring. Another issue with this brush, which initially made me think it was completely broken, is when you add a curves layer youself an do some global adjutments etc. You then try to use the adjusment brush and want a curves layer it does nothing until you add a new curves adjustment brush. If you are on none curves layer then it creates a curves layer as soon as you start painting.

@IanBarber we see now what happened. This issue is fixed and will be in the upcomming release. It was hoped to have been out in June but was not, so it was added to this July release.  Please look for the next Ps beta update and let us know if that fixes this issue.

Sorry that we didn't catch that sooner...

I have just tried the Adjustment brush in the latest update 25.11. Unless I am doing something wrong it is unusable with the curves The default curve setting 127/190 is not just for the Luminance but also for the individual RGB colours so when I move the luminance curve the other colours stay at 190. The Levels appear to be OK the default is only the composite RGB

@SHP Photography are you talking about crashes with the Adjustment brush or something else? This thread is about crashing that was fixed for the 25.11 Ps general release version, but this is the Ps beta forum, so we need to know if you are talking about Ps beta or Ps release?  The current Ps beta is Adobe Photoshop Version: 25.12.0 20240722.m.2708 7e0e5ce arm64

If you are also crashing, we need to make sure you have the latest version of Ps beta and that you are submitting your email along with the crash report.

Just replied to the email notification and did not realise it was the beta as comments also referred to the production release. My comment is about the new production release that has just been released and has the issue I commented on. Yes, the crash no longer occurs. However, my main use of the adjustment Brush would be the curves option having it add a default independent curve  to each of the  RGB, Red, Blue and Green channels means that I have to apply a reset before it can be used an issue it is quicker to just add a curves adjustment layer.
