P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

After updating to PS 24.7 and PS Beta to 25.0, there is a problem with selecting Edit in PS from Lightroom. When I rigtht click and select edit in Photoshop or PS Beta, PS opens but the photo is not there. After 3-4 minutes  a notice pops up in LR stating " File could not be edited because PS could not be launched. When I clicl OK on the popup, the photo appears in PS and everything works OK. All other Plugins work correctly in LR.

I am using a 27" IMAC 2021 with Ventura 13.4.1

It's a known problem with the Beta version.

I had the same issue, but additionally, cannot right-click on a desktop file and open with Photoshop.  It just loops around prompting for an application to open with.  All other application choices work, and removing the beta of Photoshop and installing the production version returns expected functionality.  I *love* the stuff in the beta and can't wait for the bugs to be worked out.

Very distracting in the workflow to stop and try to deal with Lightroom not having the ability to open an image in Photoshop With either the "edit in" option or the keyboard shortcut images either don't open or take minutes after receiving messages that it can't launch Photoshop. What's wierd is that after I acknowledge the can't be launched box "O.K" then it opens. Screenshot 2023-07-31 at 1.32.18 PM.png

Running PS Beta 25.0.0 and LR Classic 12.4

After the recent update, I Ctrl-E in LR to open my image for editing and I get an error about the variable not containing the right data type. I have to use alternate option which then gens a PSD and I have to then go back and remove that after prossing done.

Question:  Can Adobe add the ability in LR Preferences under External Editing to add Photoshop versions to the Primary list at the top so you can drop down the list and select the version you want?  Right now it is a drop down but only allows 1 entry.  When you add the Additional External Editer, it forces you to create a PSD etc, etc. instead of just editing with LR adjustments.

Thanks,
Randy

I guess this is why it is still Beta. I have removed it and gone back to version 24.7 which now seems to address the problem. Hopefully a proper fix will be found soon

Many threads about this issue, very frustrating. One member suggested reverting to the last working beta. For me it appears tp be a problem with rendering the file to be saved. I use tiff. In the normal state of affairs the saved file does not appear to be created until you decide to save your work. In the new beta it creates the tiff regardless, worse, it sadly ends up on the dick and in Lightroom.

They completely wrecked the beta.

Hi - I am running Lightroom Classic12.4 in Windows 10. My workflow is to develop in Lightroom Classic, then export files into Photoshop, typically as Smart Objects.

My initial problem came after installing Photoshop Beta, as this workflow stopped working. Under <Preferences> in Lightroom, the <Edit in Photoshop> had defaulted to "Photoshop 2024", which I assume is Photoshop Beta, but although this app booted up, it did not import the file to create the Smart Object.

My next step was to uninstall Photoshop Beta, first in Windows and then in Creative Cloud - for good measure.

Problem now is that under <Preferences> in Lightroom, the <Edit in Photoshop> has blanked out [SEE SNAPSHOT], instead of returning to Photoshop 2023 24.7, which is what is installed. My temporary workaround was to set Photoshop.exe for Photoshop 2023 as the <Additional External Editor> in  <Preferences>, to at least show that the interface at least still worked, although I have since reset this to <not specified>.

To try to fix this, I have un- and reinstalled Lightroom Classic12.4, selecting <Keep> for settings. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the <Edit in Photoshop> is still blanked out.

Before I un- and reinstall Lightroom Classic12.4 with the setting to <Remove> notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences, I have three questions [1] is this the correct approach to fix this bug or are there any alternatives or other steps needed? [2] Are there any watchouts with removing notifications, alerts, interface settings, plugins, and other preferences in the unistall process? [3] I have not reinstalled Photoshop 2023 24.7, as I assume that this is a Lightroom Classic problem?

Any advice highly appreciated! I am nervous about the uninstall with removed preferences - and digging myself into a deeper hole and still not fixing the bug created by Beta.

Thanks - Ian

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both LRC and PS Beta multiple times as well as installed previous versions and none of it has fixed the issue. I am still unable to right click, select "Edit in Photoshop 2024" and have the photo pulled into PS to edit. What else can I do or when can we expect this bug to be resolved?!?!!?

The only way I could fix it is my rolling back to update go to your beta releases, and go to previous version

Lr Classic no longer sees Ps. I have unistalled and reinstalled both Lr and Ps. No change. Help!

You can see in the image that the Ps version is grayed out. I can edit in Ps by using the Custom editor, but...

For the past two or three days at least, Lightroom does not launch a photo in Photoshop until I request it to do so three or more times. It then gives me "Failure to Launch" messages, several in a row quickly, and when I press ok on each, the photo finally lauches in Photoshop. This was an instantaneous process last week and now it takes a maddenly long time. I am on Mac OS and everything is up-to-date.

Since I posted the problem in my original thread, I had managed to get LrC to send file to PS23 again WITHOUT installing PS beta. But in the process of me deleting all of the associated director for all LrC, PS23, and PS beta. I think I spot the potential problem that caused the issue. A new shell directory was created for PS24 after the m2257 update, and LrC is trying to divert files to version PS24 thus broke the chain for the Edit In command.

After two days of investigation since the update on Friday, I had backed up my LrC directory, then completed uninstalled LrC, PS23 and PS betal and all of its associated folder in the install directory. Then install PS23 FIRST, and install LrC, and lastly restored my LrC directory from my backup. Things are working as it should and I will wait for the next build on PS beta before I reattempt the install.

Oh geez, I just don't know, yes, this is Beta. But very much a "encouraged and promoted" beta. I hope Adobe resolves this quickly because to have its 2 flagship photo editing apps not seamlessly is a real issue....it overshadows all of the new features..

Of course this solution is overly complicated on the user end for something
that worked seamlessly last week.
Also, while it is Beta related, when I opt for it to open in regular
Photoshop, it stalls there too. Driving me nuts!
