P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Can someone help?

When I'm in Lightroom and try to open the image in Photoshop Beta, it no longer does it. I keep getting weird error messages including the one I'm putting in here. Photoshop Beta is open on my desktop so I don't understand why I'm no longer having an easy transfer from Lightroom to PS.

Thanks in advance for your help

I've had the same problem, BUT this worked for me from previous advice in this tread.

Uninstall PS beta (25) and then install version (24.6).  You click on the three dots next to 'open' ...

Everything went back to how it was before.  If you leave the beta version open, and you want to edit in PS, it will open in the beta.  Just close the beta first and it will open in original PS if that is your prefernce.

Good luck

Use the Creative Cloud application on your PC or Mac. Go to your installed apps page. Click on the three dots. It will give you the option to install a previous version. When you select that option, it will uninstall the current version and install the previous one. I didn't have to update my shortcuts or preferences in Lightroom either.

I used to be able to hit Control E while in lightroom and the BETA version of Photoshop would open, I could make my AI changes hit CTRL S and it saved back to lightroom,  but after the recent update when I do Crtl E it opens the normal Photoshop not the BETA. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

I just wondered what will happen to all of us who, as advised in the  workaround, have rolled back to Beta 24.7 when on August 14th at 11am Pacific time versions of the Photoshop (beta) application older than version 25 lose access to the Generative AI features.

Will Beta 25.x with a working file solution be available before that time? I really do hope so, if it is not available, might it be possible to extend the cutoff deadline until a solution is offered?

I'm going to install the beta version on a separate computer apart from the one I always use just to keep it handy.

"Edit in Photoshop" not working while using Lightroom. There is Photoshop 2024 by default and couldn't open in Photoshop 2023 which is the latest version (ver. 24.7).

Also, I cannot add any other versions of Photoshop to "Edit in Other Application" tool.

I agree. As this is not a user choice in that a non-functional program is Adobe’s issue, they should extend the deadline to update. Of course, if they come up with a fix before then, I’ll gladly update the software.

I don't know if the bug is in the updated photo shop, photoshop, beta, or Lightroom. I just want to head and installed the beta version on my desktop and have the regular version on my laptop so if I need any special removal or tools to add furniture or what have you? I will just take the file and move it to my desktop Until all problems are resolved. It took me a while to figure it out how to do that. I had to uninstall everything and reinstall it, and I can't afford to have to go through all that again when I have jobs coming up.

I'm having this same issue on Mac. It takes about 5 min for LR to say it can't open PS Beta (which it already has) then when clicking OK the image appears in PS Beta. It is at this point you can LR process the image for editing in the top left corner. The issue I believe lies in LR realizing PS is running. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it doesn't fix it. Has a fix been released?

KingNine! Go to Creative Cloud and restore PS one version back to 24.6.0 and do not uninstall the program. Now everything works as it should for me, including the Beta program.

Everyone currently using the rollback method to solve this issue, in two days the generate feature will stop working in every pre 25.0 version. Adobe hasn't confirmed whether a fix will be issued before then, so you'll have to choose being able to use the generate feature or updating to 25.0 and losing lightroom sync.
