P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

After the latest update of Photoshop Beta (25.0) When I try and edit a photo in photoshop from Lightroom I get the below error message. The thing is once I hit OK it opens in photoshop anyway. The issue is it takes about 2-3 mins for this pop up to come up which is making my editing process incredibly long and annoying. Anyone having this issue and have any suggestions? I'll put what I have already tried below. I use a Mac.

  • restarting the programs, and my computer
  • yes everything is up to date with the latest software, both apps and my OS
  • I have tried uninstalling both apps and then installing photoshop first and then lightroom as someone mentioned on another Adobe forum
  • I have tried reverting my PS to earlier versions (I went back 3 versions)
  • I do have photoshop beta selected in the external editing section in LR
  • I have tried reverting the external editing to regular photoshop and not Beta but it gives me a pop up that it will open in Beta anyway

When I click Edit In Photoshop. It doesn't switch over. I have to do it several times and eventually I will get a message.

The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched.

I will click it and it will show up in Photoshop Beta.

I guess these bugs introduced with Photoshop "BETA " version will be resolved prior to the Release version of Photoshop.

Using Lightroom Classic, choosing "Edit in" --> "Photoshop Beta" nothing seemingly happens - then a couple minutes later, I get a popup error:

"AgStoreProviderSession:getEntityByID: id must be a number or string."

Hola! Gracias

One can hope. This bug was first discovered more than 3 weeks ago and there's been nothing I've seen indicating that a solution is forthcoming. Problem is that the Creative Cloud app tends to direct you to the buggy version of PS Beta 25.0

@stevedell , the "Beta" indicator says it is a test mode prior to the Release version and you should not be surprised that ther are bugs to report.

If  you do not wish interruption with your daily work avoid using Beta versions, just my personal opinion.

We are in the LrC forum, updates for the application are usually every two to two and a half months.

Last update was mid June so you can expect one soon, however there is no guarantee it would be fixed by a Lightroom update if the bug needs to be fixed by a Photoshop update.

I whole heartedly agree that the beta versions are a pre test before inclusion in the formal release update and that problems are bound to be expected. I enjoy experiencing the new functions and appreciate the acccess to this software. However, I'm surprised that Adobe should pull the plug on PS beta 24.7 generative fill today when they are aware of the problem with PS beta 25.0.
It's a pity that access to generative fill couldn't have been extended until a more stable PS beta 25.x was released.

For some reason my files from LR Classic (12.4) are no longer opening in Photoshop (24.7). I'm on a MAC using using Ventura 13.3. Any thoughts on how to fix?

Did you install Photoshop beta too? That is causing the problem. Uninstall both versions of Photoshop, then only reinstall Photoshop 24.7.

I have the same problem, and it's freaking annoying. Yes, Beta is installed too, but it was working 2 weeks ago. Please fix this.

It shouldn't depend on the beta. It was working 2 weeks ago, now it's broken.

It shouldn't, but it does. The update of the beta caused it, that is why it wasn't a problem before.

Working on Mac: sending photo from LightroomC to edit in Photoshop Beta error message appears after up to 5 mins.  Clicking OK on message, the photo will then load straight away to PS Beta. Uninstalled PS Beta and reinstalled with the same effect.Screenshot 2023-08-14 at 11.53.21.png

@johnh96908456 Adobe doesn't say anything about of release dates of updates and patches. We have to be patient and waiting.

I've heard about this issue on MacOS systems.

Please try this: Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

If this doesn't help the nest step is to reinstall both apps Lightroom and Photoshop. Please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop Client and uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic. When asked, keep preferences!

2. Install Photoshop first and then Lightroom Classic. The right order is very important here!

If this doesn't help try the reinstallation with removing the preferences also.

If this also doesn't help try to rollback to Photoshop 24.6

What has been changed on your system before the issue occur?
