P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

@UNFOTONY 's solution works:  If you roll back Lightroom to version 12.2.1, then exporting to Photoshop Beta 25.0 works fine.

so i rolled back to the last photoshop 23.5.5  version before it became photoshop 24...

and everything works fine!   liquify,  tether with lightroom, neural filters , everything...

so , something about the changeover to v24 that broke it all...

i guess ill just stay on v23 for as long as i can for now

Quick, Temporary fix.

This morning Photoshop Beta 24.7 stopped allowing me to use Generative Fill so I tried to update to Beta 25, hoping it might have been fixed without a verison change.  I still had the Lightroom Classic - Photoshop Beta 25 issue of not being able to open images.

The Temp Fix I am using is:

Went to Export.

Set it up to create a PSD of the image in the same folder and had it open Photoshop Beta 25.

This seems to be a good work around until they work out the issue.

Here are the settings I used.  Yours may be different depending on how you work.

Hope this is helpful.

As the post says.

I'm sure this is a known bug, by now but I still wanted to do my part to report it. Kinda frustrating. The initial workaround was to revert to the older version of PS Beta. Not anymore. I was forced to update, this morning and the issues are back. SMH

I've got the same problem and don't know why they closed 24.7 before they started V25

Today on August 14th, the generative fill on PS Beta 24.7 has been removed.
And the same problem still is going, we have any news on the bug solution?

Hi ! I just downloaded PS Beta version and it looks amazing. Revolutionary actually ! I am very excited about how this will significantly improve my workflow ! I just wish it was easier to open images from LR. Right now images take forever to load, which kind of beats the purpose of saving times...

Hope this will be fixed soon 🙂

It still doesn't work, I tried reverting back to version 24.7 and it gives me an error message when I try to do certain tasks i.e. remove and object it tells me; "This capability is only available in the latest versions" something like that. Which is obviously not true since from the very first version you were able to remove objects. Frustrating.

I uninstalled Beta and Photoshop 23 last weekend then re installed both programs

Monday 14the August opened image from Lightroom Develop Module after applying basic adjustments by using CMD E prompt which then opened Photoshop 23 program from scratch. I have all functions working, masking brushes visible in Select and Mask Module. Also Remove tool is working. If you open a tiff file however, that is an already processed image not from the Develop Module for Lightroom then all brushes are not working and no remove tool. One has to open a new DNG (raw) from Lightroom's develop module to access tools. This makes it hard to open existing projrojects and to continue editing or re edit images in Photoshop 23.

Hi team

Like many i am having similar issues going from LR to Photoshop Beta v 25.0. Initially Lr says that it cant be done then after 2 minutes the files open up in PS. This is causing slow work productivity.

I have also tried all the steps in installing earlier versions, however in version 24.7 PS Beta, generative fill tool doesnt work as it needs to be the latest version.

Can someone update me with the fix for PS Beta v 25.0?  I need to regularily go back and forth from LR to PS and i need the generative fill tool.

I am using the latest windows software

Sadly, this fix no longer works. It was working last week and now the generative fill feature on version 24.6 says I need to update to be able to use this feature. Very sad. Please help if there is another solution. Thx.

Update: rolled back my lightroom instead of photoshop25.0. It works now.

This is the fix: Thank you so much for this, life saver

As of today, this fix was working for me. However, since this morning, when I try to use generative fill, the progress bar gets to about halfway before disappearing.  A message prompting me to upgrade "before using this feature" then pops up.

Hi team,

The PS beta app has been excellent

But have recently come across a glitch

Version 25.0.0

OS Ventura Version 13.5

Here is what is happening (recently)

1. I always launch from  LR

2. I select open in PS Beta

3. and nothing happens

After many tries I get an error message saying the file could not be opened?

After many attempts, eventually, it opens

sometimes It saves, sometimes it wont! and after several attempts it will finally work

This is not a conplaint, just feedback, always happy with Adobe service

Regards,

Gary Worrall

I Re installed Photoshop 23 version 24.6 and I get brushes and images open fine from Lightroom. The Remove Tool however does not work. Brushes in Select and Mask modes work which is the biggest issue for me.

Reinstalled PS Beta 24.7 as per pinned message in Photoshop Community Help. Beta does not have functioning brushes in the Select and Mask module however images open from Lightroom. The Remove Tool does not work in Beta 24.7 so the work around is dissapointing to say the least. I hope that all the tools will be restored soon so that I can get back to enjoying my photography.

Best

All updates up to date (Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, Camera RAW).
After choosing "edit in Photoshop" screen switches to Photoshop (or opens Photoshop) but the image doesn't open. Just nothing happens.
Any ideas?

The link between LR and the latest update of the Beta Photoshop V25 for "Open as Layers in PS" doesn't work. I rolled back to version PS Beta V24.7 and it works but unfortunately Generative fill will no longer work with this version.

Dear Support Team, what are you doing?!?!?!?!?!?!

Until 13th August I had to downgrade my PS version and Beta version as you pinned.

Now you upgrade everything and....NOTHING WORKS. From 14th August the generative fill on PS Beta 24.7 has been removed, so I must upgrade PS Beta to 25.0 and...AGAIN from lightroom it is no possible anymore open a fine into PS Beta.
So...now...I cannot downgrade PS because generative fill doesn't work and with PS Beta 25 doesn't work. What are you doing for solve this matter without generate (fill) new problems to your customers?
Now I downgrade Lightroom and it seems it's working...but you know, this is not a solution.

@CShubert hi. from LR, edit in PS did not work for me as well on ver 25. I downgraded to ver 24.7 and it works fine but now, when i try to use the generative fill it says i cannot cause i need ver 25.

a kind of catch 22 here...

The new update doesn't open files that are exported from Lightroom showing an error and then eventually opens the file. I have uninstalled the latest version and was using the 24.7 version, until now as I am no longer able to use the generative fill unless I have the 25.0 version installed, but the bug persists.

You do know what a Beta release is, don't you? A number of us are frustrated that some of the features are buggy, but you are not entitled to a perfectly working Beta. I use the word 'entitled' very deliberately.
At least Adobe actually tests their software before full commercial release. They are aware of the problem and are working on it. The world does not owe you a generative fill feature, so perhaps the polite approach would be worth trying.

You're being rude and suggesting me to be polite ? very strange...

all i did was pointing to a problem in the beta version. i did not demand anything.

or maybe you suggest we all should say thanks to adobe and not point to any issues that exist in the software ?
