P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Hi,

To install a previous version of PSBeta open CC desktop; click on Beta apps. When the screen shows "Update available" click on the 3 dots to the right of "Open" and then you will see "Other versions" - Beta 24.7 seems to be stable and works as expected. I hope that this helps.

Exporting from Lightroom to the beta 25.0 doesn't work at first. You eventually get an error from Lightroom stating it's unable to launch Photoshop 2024. (Which it was either already open or it did open it.) If you close out Photoshop, and then close out the error from lightroom, it will eventually do it. Maybe.

I am running photoshop Beta there was an upgrade today and now lightroom does not transfer photos to Photoshop choices under prefences are photoshop 2024 and photoshop 2023 neither one works first and no dialogue asking to open with lightroom edits appears if you wait a few minutes lightroom pops up a dialogue box stating that it could not open the photo in Photoshop the the photo opens in Photoshop.

I have uninstalled and reinstall all versions of lightroom and photoshop this did not resolve this issue.

Photoshop version 24.7.0

Photoshop Beta Version 25.0.0

Update if I close Beta Photoshop 2023 will open photo about 1/2 the time.

Closing Ps the next message came in Lr:

It always worked fine. Now not, even after restarting the PC.

How to fix?

After last update now I can't export my raw file from Lightroom to Photoshop 2024 or BETA (25.0) directly.  I received a message like this:  THE FILE COULD NOT BE EDITED BECAUSE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 2024 COULD NOT BE LAUNCHED.

Now, both Lightroom and PS are opened.  When I go to edit in and hit Adobe Photoshop 2024 the PS screen comes up (or open if PS is not already up) but the photo won't load.  After a minute if I go to LR the above message appears.  When I close the message, then the photo open in PS.

Hi @fotografiamoreno, I can confirm after testing this I got the same error. Photoshop wasn't open to begin with, but it did launch correctly from Lightroom. It hung up for a while, but the CR2 file never opened. After a minute or two, the error message popped up in Lightroom. I tried several workarounds without success so far. (Lightroom Classic 12.4; Photoshop 24.7; Windows 10 Pro)

When launching PS beta 25 (Friday, July 28, updated today), it fails to open the picture and says it can't open PS.  PS does open, but it sits there as if LR has not sent it a photo.  Very frustrating.  After this, the regular PS does the same, not accepting a file from Lightroom.

I put it on the beta area.  Same issue, AND it makes regular PS fail after that.  I just deinstalled beta and will do without it until fixed.

I can confirm this as well on PC.

I did uninstall both the beta and normal and reinstall. What I found is they tried to fix the preference I believe.

azmil77_1-1690562846094.png

Last time, on PC, this was not an option to choose this for me. If I choose Adobe 2024.. the error will occur. If I choose Adobe 2023, it is working fine. I believe when they tried to fix the previous issue where the menu was not there, they accidently added the Adobe 2024 options instead of Adobe 2023 beta... and thus causing this issue. I think the beta is meant  to be Adobe 2024 but I suspect the linking is incorrect.

Just installed latest verion of Photoshop Beta (25.0), also have latest version of Photoshop (24.7) and latest version of Lightroom Classic (12.4). Having real issue integrating LRc with either version of Photoshop.

In preferences I only have an option for Photoshop (24) - The beta version does not show in tghe list, despite having previously chosen it.

When I select an image in LRc and click on edit in... the only option is Photoshop 2024. However when I proceed Photoshop Beta opens, but the image does not appear. So now I can't open an image from Lightroom into either Photoshop or Photoshop Beta.

Just adding to my previous post, to do a workaround for this, in case you want to use the beta for the generative AI, uninstall the latest version and install the previous version.

azmil77_0-1690563604131.png

The lightroom menu will go back to the previous before fix

azmil77_1-1690563693677.png

You need to open PS beta first, then do the edit a copy. This will work. Just note, the way the edit open before was it open the last installed version of photoshop.. doesn't matter beta or not. If beta was the last installed/update, it will open that. If it was the normal one last installed/updated, it will open that. I think the new patch version 25 was suppose to fix this but alas, they screw it up.

Since I was doing a registry cleaning a few days ago, I thought this was my fault.  I was ready to roll back to my reg backup but reading all this... I am good to go regarding my Win11 settings.  I think this will be corrected soon.. fingers crossed.

Thanks for the workaround tip.  I will keep working on my current photo session, then I do the roll back to the previous version.  Thanks

To add more detail to this discussion:

If I try to open RAWs, DNGs or HEICs, if PS Beta is not open, it will open but the document will not open. This doesn't appear to happen with PSDs, JPEGs, TIFFs or PNGs. (PSB files struggle but finally open.)

I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the release version and the beta version. I tell LRC to open in PS 2024 (beta) and the program will launch but RAWs will not open.

Cory, thanks for your great engagement here.  It happens whether PS 2024 beta is put in a custom slot or if it's in the primary selectable PS slot that is automatically created.  ONE OTHER IMPORTANT THING IS THAT WHEN IT ENDS UP OPENING SOMETIMES AFTER THE ERROR MESSAGE, IT CREATES A TIFF FILE BEFOREHAND AND LOADS THAT IN LIGHTROOM'S FILMSTRIP.  Photoshop doesn't do that normally.  It works on the RAW file usually, and doesn't create a TIFF unless you ask it to save the file.
