P: Ungroup resulting in crash in 26.0.0 Beta

Reporting an issue here that seems to consistently crash PS Beta 26.0.0

Mac OS 13.1 (22C65)

iMac 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7

Here are the steps to reproduce:
-Create a layer with some raster content
-Group it 3 times (group inside of a group inside of a group)

-Merge the innermost group (Group 1)

-Ungroup the next group up (Group 2)

I'll also attach a screen recording below.

While it may seem like an unusual sequence, I have a plugin with 1000+ users that uses a version of this very sequence - it'll be a real mess for me if the issue persists. Thanks for making the Beta available for these types of things!

Hi @bradye24597041 testing here with your steps from the video and not getting the crash. Curious if you see this with Ps release version or JUST Ps beta?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

No, I'm not seeing it with PS release - this is specific to beta.

Interesting - I was anticipating you'd be able to reproduce the crash. So far I've heard from 3 users of the plugin that reported crashing. Suspecting it might be caused by this same issue, I asked each user to uninstall the plugin and manually try the same sequence (group x 3, merge, ungroup). In all three cases, the users reported that yes, this did crash the beta release only. Unfortunately, I don't have access to their system info (will attach mine below) but this seemed to indicate it was not something super specific to my system.

Note - I do see the notification on launch that OS 14.6.1 is recommended and I'm running 13.1.
I can certainly try updating the OS, but if that's the culprit, it would be my preference to work out the kinks beforehand - whether that's by helping to pinpoint a line of code in PS beta, or by reworking my plugins to navigate around the issue. Since many users may not be able to update their OS, I try to keep things working with the lowest common denominator - hope that makes sense.

Hi @bradye24597041 thank you for the follow up. What is the plugin you created/use that is causing this in Ps beta? If you launch Ps beta by holding the shift key to dismiss any third party plugins, do you still have the same crash issues?

As a FYI, when Mac OS updates its version, as it recently has, we also move up the supported OSs and this might be the case with your plugin and how it works in OS 13.

I've probably confused matters by referencing the plugin so much. It's called the Distressor - but plugin aside and disabled, I can recreate the error using a simple action. So shift-launching PS beta, dismissing all 3rd party plugins, and running the following action still results in a crash:

It may be a matter of updating the OS, but since this seems to be the case with no plugins loaded or plugin interaction, seems like it'd be good to be concretely aware of. Not trying to be antagonistic - just genuinely looking to get an understanding of what's happening.

Hi Cory and team,

I know we already addressed a similar issue last week with PS beta crashing when working with 3 groups, but with the new release, the problem seems to have gotten worse.

I'm now seeing a crash when placing an item inside only 2 groups, merging the inner group, then ungrouping. Similarly, the program will crash if I place an item inside two groups, merge the inner group, move it backward and outside of the parent group (using "cmd ["), then delete the empty group.

I believe the prior Beta only had this issue when working with items nested in 3 groups - that still exists, but it seems something may have exacerbated the issue. I'm unable to attach actions (let me know if you want me to email), but you can see both sequences here:

It would be tremendously helpful if can you tell me, if you're seeing the same error, is this something you think is fairly certain to be addressed before the public release? I have several actions and things on the marketplace that put items in a temporary group to manipulate, then move them outside of the group and delete the group. In other words, if this bug is in the public release, I'll have to anticipate a whole lot of unhappy users and need to plan accordingly.
