Holding mouse left button down gets stuck during some actions

Since version 24.5, a new bug where holding the mouse button gets stuck during actions like panning, zooming, and, transform (maybe more actions that I haven't noticed). When releasing the mouse button, the action continues until I click again. This bug has persisted in 24.5, 24.6, and the current Beta 24.7. I tried resetting the preferences. Any help would be appreciated.
This sounds similar to these two posts.

This issue is very frustrating, and needs to be resolved. It's hard to get any work done when every 3rd click or so the mouse gets stuck. PLEASE FIX THIS.

So an update on this.... I tried to roll back on all available versions of PS from 25.0 and strangely, all ended up having this problem, where previously, the version prior to v25 didn't have the problem.

I heard that under preferences > tools, to turn Overscroll and Flick Panning off may fix it. I have these turned off anyway, but still had issue. It was a mystery why the other versiosn of PS started doing it.

  1. So, I took screenshots of each page of PS (v25.0) Preferences (so I don't need to remember all my current setttings), and a sreengrab of my workspace, saved them as jpgs in a folder for furture reference.
  2. Closed PS.
  3. Then, I deleted my PS prefrences. ( see https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually )
  4. Opened PS, didn't adjust any prefs, just created new file, and found this "bug" had gone... left button did not appear to stay on (or "stuck") during selections, panning, or whatever.
  5. Went through and updated all my prefs (including my PSUSerConfig.txt file to get rid of anyoing key-press label pop-ups for noobs!) closed and re-opned PS and all seems good. Seems to have fixed another issue where in v25, Scripts > Image Processor was not working in v25.0.

Of course this is marked as solved, when it isn't. So now the mods can ignore the thread despite the issue persisting.

Infuriating.

I just uninstalled all versions of photoshop on my system, removed all preferences, deleted all photoshop folders in program files and my user profile folders and then did the following:

Installed     PS v25.0 - disabled flick panning and overscoll - Issue persists.
Uninstalled PS v25.0 - (removed preferences)
Installed PS beta v25.2.0 - disabled flick panning and overscoll - Issue persists.
Uninstalled PS beta v25.2.0 - (removed preferences)
Installed PS v24.7.1 - disabled flick panning and overscoll - Issue persists.
Uninstalled PS v24.7.1 - (removed preferences)
Installed PS v 24.0 - disabled flick panning and overscoll - Issue not present.

Clearly this is an issue that has been introduced at some point between 24.0 and 24.7.1.

If there's no action in this thread by mods, then we need to make a new thread, because they will likely not look here anymore now that it's been maked as solved.

I have attached a video showing the issue. What I am doing is panning with space + mouse, then trying to release both keys at the same time. It's quite easy to repeat. When I move the screen in a circular motion - this is when I have no keys or mouse buttons pressed.

Edit:

So Adobe appears to be aware of this issue and is working on a fix. Who knows when, but this thread might be worth following: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-completely-broken-hand-tool-ps24-5-hand-to...

There is also a suggested workaround that is working for some:

1. Backup photoshop settings, by copying folder C:\Users\(YOUR PC NAME)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)
select the "Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings" folder and the "Presets" folder, save it in a safe place.
2. In photoshop, open settings (ctrl+k) and click "Reset Preferences On Quit"

3. Close the Photoshop application
4. Reopen the Photoshop application, once open, don't do any activity, close your Photoshop again.
5. Go to C:\Users\(YOUR PC NAME)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) directory
Delete the "Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings" Folder and the "Presets" folder
6. Copy the folder from the backup earlier, and paste it in the folder C:\Users\(YOUR PC NAME)\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)
7. Open the Photoshop application, and the problem has been resolved.

Personally I have tested all versions from 24.0 up to 24.7.1 and for me, 24.7.1 now works, whereas it didn't this morning. so this issue is less cut-and-dry than it appears.

I tried the above suggested fix, and my beta now works. So I suggest giving it a try.

It is a strange bug. It seems related to some file/s that get modified during the update process. During my search for a solution, I ended up at the same version that had the bug at some point. Rolling back, then updating seems to "fix" the issue.

For now, I've stopped updating Photoshop until it recieves a major update. This is a serious bug that renders the software mostly unusable.

All updates installed. This at least 6 months ongoing cat and mouse game with the sticky cursor is most frustrating and makes the program partially unusable. It is worrying as a customer if the software provider is so poweless in fixing this crucial function using a mouse/pen.

can someone mark this unsolved, becuase it clearly isn't - We need someone from Adobe to chime in here, because this is not okay to be paying ao much money for a program that is so hindering and unusable.  - We need answers.

Like everyone else, I am in the same boat. Paying for Adobe Suite each
month to use Photoshop and this bug make Photoshop almost impossible to use.

How has Adobe ignored this issue for so long?

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this bug and bug reports is the inability to downvote the 'correct answer'. Hopefully Adobe would then have a better gauge of our frustration with this entirely debilitating bug.

Simply impossible to get anything done when most of my focus is spent on double-checking and correcting for 'sticky click' behavior instead of actually working on a file.

As others pointed out in this and many other bug reports, updates are what keep bringing 'fixed' bugs back, and then Adobe gasps at people pirating their software and happily having a bug-free environment over simply not updating at all.

Start devoting dev time to permanently fixing bugs before piling on new features on shoddy foundations.

While I'm aware that we're not that many, else this would be getting web media coverage, we're still plenty and it's been going for an uncomfortably long period.

I also just tried searching the issue again to gauge just how long it's been happening, and ran into Illustrator having the same issue as far back as 2017. They probably fixed it by now because reports stopped soon.

If Adobe is listening (highly unlikely), I believe I pinpointed the trigger for this bug.

The mouse has to come to a full stop before letting go of the click.

I noticed this earlier -  using the polygonal lasso tool before I was able to do fast move'n'click selections, lately my clicks simply wouldn't register until I slowed down. Today, while working with text and selecting it, naturally, the left click stuck because I was letting go of the left mouse button while still moving it. Going slower / coming to a full stop before letting go of the mouse button alleviates the issue. Overscroll and flick panning are disabled, no correlation to the bug.

So Adobe, there you go. Do your magic.

In our organization we have made a decision to gradually move on using C1. Although personally I feel it has not so nice features and tools, but it is fast and it works. Bridge is also a slow snail viewer - has been so more or less forever. And constant paranoid singn in is frustrating. I feel Adobe concentrates today more on hobbyists who are not in a hurry.
