P: Camera Raw as a Filter (not the plugin) freezes Photoshop on use

My photoshop is getting stuck whenever I try to use the camera raw filter; nothing opens up after I click on it, and I can't even close my photoshop. everything gets stuck and a sound like a notification comes up, but still, nothing shows up

Hello awesome people! 

I might have a solution for a few of you.
I'm working on a Macbook Pro 2015 with integrated Intel graphics. I tried a few of the suggested tips but they didn't work, instead what did work, was reducing the image size as the actual was very big 240DPI and about 5500x3500 in document size, once the size was reduced, Camera Raw worked just fine!

Can't understand why in August of 2024 this is still an issue but it is, at least in Windows 10. Is this a thing with Apple hardware?  I would seriously consider switching to a Mac if it meant no longer suffering this bug.

This is something that must be specific to a configuration. I'm not seeing on multiple computers, both Mac and Windows.

This started happening today for me. I have a file open and select Camera Raw Filter and it renders the app but not the image.

This is my screen, I've tried removing all Adobe applications and reinstalling older versions and nothing seems to work. Any help would be most appreciated.

I am having same issue. Adobe photoshop freezes as soon as i press camera raw and can't even close adobe with out forcing it.  I have tried updating to the creative cloud's last version and changing preferences. Nothing seems to work

Both Photoshop Camera raw & Light room freeze, when the mask tool is cliked. Tried resetting prefereces, tried reintalling. Nothing works. My work has completeky halted as photoshop is no more usable. A great loss of time & money. 

BTW, when you click the mask icon, why does camera raw automatically find people. Absolutely uneccassary.

I'm having this same problem now.  It only started a few days ago.  I've unstalled & re-installed Photoshop 2025, but the prblem still there.  I have even installed the last version of Photoshop 2024 & have the same problem. 

It's driving me mad!  Any help/advice gratefully accepted. 
I have a 2019 Macbook Pro with a 1TB SSD (plenty of storage on it & I am running MacOS Sequoia 15.1)

I am STILL freezing up when trying to use the camera raw filter in both PS and Bridge. If I am opening a new file I cant open it in PS, I have to open it in Bridge then go to Edit In Phgotoshop so I can bypass PS trying to open in Camera RAW and I have CTRL ALT DEL because the computer freezes. This is late Nov 2024 so Adobe still hasnt fixed the problem. And for as much money as they charge on the subscription, this is unacceptable. Seems every other week creative cloud is doing an update and they cant seem to fi this issue. The very reason I ended my subscription this month and will be giving Capture 1 a try.

Adobe should not mark this bug as fixed. (Nov 2025) 

I am saddled with the same problem and an accompnaying loss of time and money.  This has been going on for months now. 

Give the number of folk experiencing this problem, it must be a bug that is reproducible by Adobe. 

It's incredible that it's not yet fixed.

Just updated my Photoshop from 2024 to 2025(26.2) with Camera Raw 17.1. Now all bad. The CameraRaw filter will not work, and raw images cannot be opened. The raw window will not start, Photoshop gets stuck either way. Uninstalled every thing and installed 26.1, not working. Back to 2024, not working either. It turned out CameraRaw 17.1 will always be installed with not controlability. Now I am stuck in usless state. Thanks for this thread but no thanks to the claim this is fixed. 

I have Win11 on AMD Ryzen and AMD Radeon.

Following online guidance on how to install CameraRaw along, it turns out V17.1 and V14.5 are both available. Downloaded the online V14.5 to local drive, installed it. Turned on PS2.24. Now Camera Raw works! Going back to install PS2025(26.2), CameraRaw still works, and shows V14.5. IT IS OBVIOUS V17.1 IS NOT WORKING. Some of us that have have very new cameras will have no luck now. 

Hope Adobe can fix this soon.

This site provide download links for both 17.1 and 14.5 with various OS options. This will save you locking problem although you cannot use the new features of 17.1. It is good for the Photoshop 2.24 or 2025. It replaces the Creative Cloud automatically installed 17.1.

This is happening to me as well, and has been for months. None of the suggested fixes have fixed the problem, and it has cost me hours and hours of work. Please, please help.

Having the latest Photoshop version (26.4.1) My Photoshop still locks up and freezes when I want to use or edit a Camera Raw Filter.

Junio del 2025 y el error sigue ... no abre aboslutamente nada, suena como una notificación al dar click en cualquier parte de photoshop y tengo que presionar esc para volver a usar el interfaz de photoshop
