P: Color Lookup - Crisp_Winter.look Displaying Black with Windows 11 kb008353 update installed

Using the Photoshop 23.1.1 Release I can not get a specific look file (Crisp_Winter.look) to display correctly

When selecting color lookup
Then trying to load the 3DLUT File from the pull down menu
When selecting the option Crisp_Winter.look the image turns black
This is not suposed to happen, however the other look files work as expected
I've check the location: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2022\Presets\3DLUTs
And the file exist.
This has worked in the past and I really need this look

Can anyone help or suggest a workaround?

@12Lions You can use a black to white gradient and multiply blend mode to combine different gradients

I recently came across a problem with Adobe Photoshop 2022 after being forced an update

(2022-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5011493))

to my pc.. (thanks Windows..)

3DLut filters that I have applied *after* the update make the entire canvas go black,

this however is not the case with abstract color profiles.

The 3DLuts I have applied before the update work just as intended.

So far I was able to fix this by just reverting the update but I'm getting sick of doing that every few weeks.

Primarily I'd like to know what causes this,

if there are any intentions on fixing this

and if/how I can fix this without reverting updates every single time.

Which version of Photoshop do you use?

Do you have installed the latest hardware divers, especially the driver for the graphic card?

Do you habe restart your system (cold boot)?

Please try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)

Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check:

Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)

Go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

I've been having the same problem. I am not nearly savvy enough with computers to fix it in any of the ways that keep being suggested...if something works please reply here because I use PS almost daily and it's really making my work difficult.

Yes

Reset preferences made no difference.

Deactivating Native Canvas made no difference.

unchecking Use Graphics Proccesor made no difference.

Note: Only 2Strip.look, 3Strip.look, Bleach Bypass.look, Crisp_Winter.look, FallColors.look, Soft-Warming.look are affected,

@amaranth_There is a very simple fix to the solution and that is to Revert the windows update,

this should be fairly easy to do, even for someone that is not tech savvy. (Just google it, should only be a few steps)

After that you want to disable windows update's so you can enjoy photoshop for a few weeks without windows updating.

Eventually windows will force you to update and you have to revert the update again etc...

Hey, to all win 11 usere the new april 22 update still does not fix the lut issues. As in when you do a color look up Half of them are still black

Quick note: Older files created before the windows update with .look LUTs in them still work,
A solution would be to use older files as a template file, so you can still use .look LUTs.

Just don't accidentally delete them, and make sure you backup the original file.

You are brilliant! This is only a work around tho'. I was able to put the LUTs layer(s) (*.look - that don't work appear to work in Windows 11) from previously saved PSD or TIF files and put them into my Adobe Library. They work when you pull them out of the Library to use on current work in Photoshop (on Win11). (I sort of cheated by placing all 6 of these LUTs as separate layers in one PSD file on a Win10 machine which I opened in a Win11 machine to grab the layers for my Library.)

Hello,

Around 80% of the provided LUTs in Colour Lookup adjustment layer are not working on Photoshop 2022 under Windows 11. Most of the LUTs in Colour Lookup are turning up the image as black (check screenshot) while a few works fine though.

After going through several posts in Adobe Community, I found users faced a similar issue in an earlier version of Photoshop. So based on the suggestions, when I enable Compatability Mode (check screenshot), then everything starts falling back to normal again.

Yes I saw that I can try and cobble my system to make it run like windows 8 to make photoshop run right. But I do not really want to go down that rabbit hole for now.(unintended consequences) I saw that other people were having the same issues. And I am (when possible) trying to stay up to date on both photoshop and windows (since if your not that is another rabbit hole to go down) The reason for this post was just to let people who are not updating all the time, know if the latest update adressed this issue. And on win 11 pro it is still not fixed. So yes I know about the cobble but do not consider that to be the answer to this question. Thanks, Jim

Just a thought:

Go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?
Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?
Try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here: Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)
Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check: Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)

Yes like most people that have been using PS forever I did all that stuff.

On original post about this one of your pro guys stated. Yes this is easily reproducible we know what is happening and we are working on it. So I am not looking for work arounds and half fixes. You already suggested this to multiple people (including me),
this troubleshooting and the fixes suggested don't/will not work because that's not where the core issue lies.

The only thing we can really do is wait (a very long time knowing adobe) for Adobe to fix it,
The only thing we can do in the meanwhile are a few workaround tricks such as:
1. Run photoshop in compatibilty mode (horrible workaround in my opinion but it works)
2. Per my suggestion:
Use an older template .psd / .tif file with all .look files in them (template file needs to be made on a version where the .look LUTs still worked!) (please label this as a correct answer)

Hello all,

Just a quick update/note about the color lookup adjustment layers making the image black.

I am not sure if new photoshop update fixed this (23.3.1) or if the latest Win 11 update fixed this.

I could not see any details of the fix in the issues fixed update page.

But either way it seems to be fixed and working now.

I checked Windows 11 with Ps 23.3.1 and Win 11 OS 21H2 Build 22000.652 LUTS seem to work again.

I checked Windows 10 with Ps 23.3.1 and Win 10 OS 21H1 Build 19043.1645 LUTS seem to work again.

Hey all again, still an issue but has changed.

I am on win 11 64 pro. with latest updates and PS with latest updates.

I thought this was fixed and it is kind of.

If I have been working for a while and doing a bunch of stuff and then try to use a colorlookup table layer, on a bunch of them (crisp warm, crisp cool etc.) they will turn layer black. But thought it was weird because it worked earlier.

I found that even without closing PS but just closing file and reopening it.

Now when adding a color lookup table layer, all of the lookups work as they are supposed to.

Not ideal but I can work that way for now.
