P: Not detecting older GPU's

I have a AMD HD8490 GPU and installed Photoshop version 21.2 and the GPU is not been detected, I'm not alone as I've come across other people with the same issue on the Photoshop community forum.
Reverting back to 21.1.3 fixes the issue
Why does Adobe release updates to fix bugs and then break something else with the same update.

Photoshop's GPU requirements have increased for 22.0. Try the solutions here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html#ProgramErroropeningfiles

If your card is not supported you may need to upgrade your graphics card.

For example @Ged's card is very old and is not supported:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cc-gpu-card-faq.html#Unsupportedgraphicscards

It scores less than 200 on this benchmark: https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/directCompute.html

Quadro FX 3800 works on 22.1 again as well.  I've worked in it this morning for a bit and no obvious bugs yet.

If it helps anyone. I was just experiencing this problem using Photoshop 22.1 on a Zbook 14 i7 (Win 10 Pro) with HP Ultraslim Docking Station. Reverting to 21.2.4 GPU is detected.

Ditto a while ago... have to say though that photoshop 22.1 on win 10 is slower than 7. actually really disappointed and also feels more clunky. It recognises the video card which to be honest is what I wanted. Shame it didnt do it on win 7.

It seems that Adobe broke Windows 7 versions of Photoshop version 21 in later releases. Same with Camera Raw version 12.x later releases. According to the system requirements for Photoshop version 21 and Camera Raw 12.4, Windoes 7 should be supported.

Well they do work, but apparantly not with GPU support. This problem seems to have happened because they broke Windows 7 support half way through a major release.

Does anyone using Windows 7 have working GPU support and if so, what version of Photoshop and ACR are you using?

That's interesting. I'm on 21.2.5 and GPU is not recognised. With this PS version, when I use ACR 12.4, the GPU is not recognised either.

while PS version 21.2.5 detects the same gpu in Windows 10 and does not in Windows 7, it would be operating system issue? But what about ver 21.1.3 which detects gpu on Windows 7?  Maybe  incompatibility between system/drivers/ps?

I think Adobe broke PS for Windows 7 somewhere between 21.1.3 and 21.2.5. And it doesn't look like they're interested in fixing it. It is not an issue with "old" GPUs becuase these GPUs work in Windows 10.

I think they dropped suppport for Open GL somewhere around this time but whether that has anything to do with the problems, I don't know.

FYI: Looks like 22.3.1 breaks GPU detection again. My RTX 2060 is not detected. Rolling back to 22.3.0 restored GPU accelleration.

Big *sigh*

It seems, Adobe doesn't work very consistant or careful  regarding updates and newer versions.

Those bugs weren't very common back in the days, when one could buy the software.

I'm not saying, that the subscription model is bad, but imho the software should be less afflicted with bugs, charging customers for the use of Photoshop, as they do.

Seems they cre more about new features than avoiding introducing new bugs every time 😕

Not even speaking of lost worktime on projects, downgrading all the time.

Which one was the last flawlessly functioning version? Can't remember! 😞

broken again under 22.4.3 (Win 10)

Won't waste my time trying Trinios fix.

That's on Adobe to fix.

Every Update, the most basic things keep breaking, but we get some AI-Space-Age feature.

Thanks, but that's useless, if things like brush preview and curves with wacom break.

Unfortunately, this often happens with Adobe updates. Years go by and nothing changes.
