P: Select and Mask Workspace preview selection tools

In the Select and Mask Workspace an update of a selection made with any Tool (Quick Selection, Refine Edge Brush, Brush, Object Selection or Lasso) is NOT showing in the following Views: Onion Skin, On Black, On White, On Layers. In the Views Marching Ants, Overlay, and Black and White it is showing (MacOS Catalina 10.15.7)

It opens up the settings just fine but shows no real-time preview and I can't use the brushes to edit the edges and when I press OK, it's made all sort of weird edits to the image that I couldn't see in real-time. Please fix this ASAP.

UPDATE: I wanted to record a video showing how it's bugging out, but now I can't get the Select & Mask settings box to show up...... So this is SUPER buggy. Need a fix!

Why does Adobe keep throwing out untested new versions?? Does anybody supervise anything anymore?

Guys im trying to use the mask refinement preview but its not previewing since i updated i think? I ahve tried gpu on and off. It makes the changes on the image when i apply them. I just cant see what the hell im doing in the preview.

Are you on Mac or Windows?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

In the mean time you can try this workaround:

Go to Preferences > Technology Previews, and check the item Deactivate Native Canvas, then restart Photoshop.

Same problem here! It appeared with the 22.4 update and it is still here in 22.4.1

I use MacOS 10.15.7, it has nothing to do with Big Sur

@dramenon  Deactivate Native Canvas and restarting does not resolve this.

However to be clear so the issue can be replicated :

Entering select and mask without a selection works OK.

Entering select and mask from a selection works OK.

Entering select and mask from a layer mask, by double clicking, results in specific previews not working i.e onion skin, on black on white

The OP reported using a Mac - I use Windows 10.

I'm having a similar problem in Photoshop 22.24.1

If I have an existing mask, I cannot use the Select and Mask tool correctly. If i keep in only on "Black and White" view it works, but changing to any other view does not show the effects of the sliders.

If I accept the changes, they will take effect, but I don't have any idea what they're doing, as I can only preview in Black and White view in the tool.

If I hold shift and use the legacy tool from the top menus, that works as it always had. This issue only happened when I installed the 2021 version of Photoshop.

OS 10.14.6, with an 8GB Metal graphics card, 64GB of RAM, and dedicated scratch disk. Both the OS and Photoshop are on the latest release.

Hi, I have the same problem in version 2021-22.4.1, Windows 10. I make a selection, create layer mask and open Select and Mask via the button in Properties, then I can´t use the tools in Select and Mask for all views (not working for Onion skin, On Black, On White, On Layers).

I am having this issue today, thought updating would fix it. Im now on 22.4.1 and cannot figure out how to fix this issue.

I'm masking out product photos, when I'm feathering, smoothing, or using the brush tool when I'm in the masking screen I can only see what changed after I hit apply. I'm not able to see the changes happen

Same problem here. The "real-time refinement" is greyed out in the mask editing interface and the workaround did not help.
