Large white blocks appearing and work is impossible

Hi

I've seen similar issues on here but the resolution of updating hasn't resolved the issue for me.
I'm getting large white blocks appear on my file when painting (simple brush tool)  and further work becomes impossible.
I'm ruinning Photoshop 24.4.1 (latest) on Windows 10 and the latest Nvidia drivers.

My PC has 128GB Ram and an RTX 3090 ti with 24GB Vram. The file I'm working on is REALLY simple and a small filesize.
I used to complete large. complex paintings using a RTX 20260 with 32GB ram with no trouble at all.
Any ideas?

Probably your GPU is causing white blocks to appear. Go to Preferences > Performance untick Use Graphics Processor and restart Ps. If that solves problem try with Preferences > Technology Previews and tick Older GPU Mode (Pre 2016) then restart Ps.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I unticked "Use Graphics Processor" and that has resolved this issue....but it also gives me a warning saying that many setting will be unavailable. Also, my graphics card is seen by Photoshop as compatible and is one of the most powerful on the market. Am I not just "hobbling" it and making things slower and less capable of working on large complex files?

Try then to use GPU with latest update. How old is your GPU driver. Can you post content of Help > System Info?

Hi guys! 

1. The problem is that the newest versions of adobe premier pro and after effects work very poorly with the latest "studio driver". Especially when exporting.
And with "game ready" it works great. Therefore, it is difficult for those who work in all applications in parallel.

2. Enabling support for older video cards greatly slows down work in Photoshop. Therefore, the solution, unfortunately, is not suitable. Video card rtx 4090

I have RTX 2060 and everything works fine. No blocks while painting with the Brush tool. The only difference I can spot is driver release date. Perhaps you have Gaming driver installed? Try to install Studio driver to see if there is any difference.

I double checked and I do have the studio driver, latest release. I'm selling an RTX 2060 today though - maybe I should stick it back in! 🙂

Having said that - I've just rebooted the machine......and it's no longer causing an issue, so maybe it was "just one of those things".

I've had the same problem! Rebooting didn't help though. Studio driver up to date - I'm going to try Preferences > Technology Previews and tick Older GPU Mode (Pre 2016)

I was having this same issue and what I discovered was that the issue was only happening in a file that was created as CMYK and was later converted to RBG. All my other files originally made in RBG did not have this white box problem. Converting the document did not fix the issue, but what solved it was making a new RGB file and dragging all the layers into it. I don't think it has anything to do with GPU, as someone mentioned in another thread.

Hi, what worked for me was disabling artboards. It seems artboards are the issue from my end. Try disabling artboards see if it works. When you create a new canvas just untick the artboards option and see if it works, it did for me.

Also works for me.

I suspect the issue is related specifically to the Artboard Background Color settings. I had mine set to "white" and was getting the white block bug. However, setting the background to "Transparent" and making my own white fill layer seems to fix the issue.
