Hi All,

Apologies for the flashing/strobing you're experiencing when opening files, this tends to affect older graphics cards (GPU) that don't support all of the aspects of DirectX 12.

For Windows:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)"
  3. Check if there's a GPU driver update available and update if so

For macOS:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Update to a newer or latest ma

We would like to find out if there are any of you on Windows for whom:

A. Use Older GPU Mode is Checked, and

B. Deactivate Native canvas is Unchecked, and

C. are still experiencing this strobing issue with a GPU that supports DirectX 12?

If so, could you please provide Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text in this thread?

when I open an photo in PS I get a blank document, in the layers panels I see the picture that is loaded.
Sometimes the opened document blinks/flikkers black/white.
What is wrong with my PS?
I use a windows PC, OS 10.
Never had problems before until I switched to the latest desktop version.

The black and white flickering is a known issue. Here's the solution from the Knowledge Base article:

  1. Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)”
  2. If you are still having trouble, try enabling the Deactivate Native Canvas option in Technology Previews.

Version 24.4.1. was installed. It does not work. When opening a document (photo) the desktop blinks and no operations can be made. The installation erased the old version, and that was the recommended procedure. I want the old version back. I do not use cloud services, so it is more adequate for me.

Hi @Nikos29528053ba0h ,

We're aware of this issue & the team is working on a fix.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Technology Previews and enable the Deactive Native Canvas option, then restart Photoshop.

Hi @Beermeupscotty Go to Photoshop Help Menu/System Info and copy/paste details in a reply. Post only once as the system takes time to process the large amount of data. Obviously if none of the solutions worked and you've restarted Photoshop after changing the settings, something else is going on.
