P: Bring back "Shake Reduction" filter - Removed in Photoshop v.23.3.0

Community Beginner ,
Apr 16, 2022 Apr 16, 2022

Gordon

You can install version 22.5.7 along with version 23.3.1, so you can have both 2022 and 2021 installed at the same time, version 2021 will have the shake reduction filter

@John Young Photography

As a workaround you could revert back to version 23.2.2

This entire thread is incorrect. Your inquiry is good and reflects my surprise this morning when I attempted to use the previous Shake Reduction filter! Can SOMEONE with true knowledge please help us out here!

@giP

Help you in what way, Adobe have removed the filter in version 23.3, you have two options available as I already mentioned above, revert to version 23.2.2 or install 22.5.7 along side 23.3.1

That's not a sufficient answer. I'm not reverting because I don't want to lose other features. I think the only plan for now is to be patient and wait for the team to create a new Shake filter that is compatible across platforms.

What would you imagine to be a »sufficient answer«?

Topaz Sharpen AI is very good - they have a free trial

Hi,

I agree on the bring-back shake reduction. I use to use it all the time.

But, now I use Topaz and use the smart sharpen in photoshop with motion
blur and change the angles. This helps but shake reduction was easy and
best!

Topaz Sharpen AI is pretty good for shake reduction but not as convenient to use as the late lamented PS filter and a fair bit slower. From what I experience, it runs quite a bit faster on my M1 Macs (MBA and Mini) than it seems to on my Intel MBP.

Anyone else missing Shake reduction filter under Filter - Sharpen? I think it dissapeared after the last update. Using PC on Latest Windows 10.

It's been removed in version 23.3

That's a shame. It was very useful. I wonder if there's an alternative method.

I reverted back but I will have to figure out another solution sometime in the future if Adobe introduces any new, must-have, features.  I was even thinking of partitionaing my C drive and loading 2 instances of windows and operate them simultaneously, one with the old version of PS and one with the latest updated version.  Caveat, I don't know how to do this.

Exactly. How to use 2 versions without a lot of time consuming switching back and forth.

you have to do it manually... sharpen the image, then do noise reduction..as a final step i then do the FILTER-SHARPEN-SMART SHARPEN....

Both sharpening and noise reduction do strange things to the pixels in the
image. My guess is that the shake reduction filter somehow puts the pixels
back in proper position which they should have been in if there were no
shake to begin with. The image looks sharper but the filter really isn't
shapened in the traditional sense. I've tried many times to emulate the
shake reduction filter and haven't found a solution yet. Even the Topaz
version isn't nearly as good.

I did come across this advanced method of reducing shake related blur but it's very involved. Still, considering the current environ on PS perhaps I'll resurrect it

An Action would work but only if the user is very versed in the concept behind the procedure after taking the time to watch the video

There are so many many users just like me ! It just went missing. Suck! Adobe should come out with a better or improved shake reduction filter instead of removing it.

We are the end users!
Disappointed ☹️
