Feature request: I love the artboards in Photoshop but I can't properly export layer comps now. Seems like there should just be a checkbox in the "Layer Comps to Files" dialog that says "Use Artboards". Adobe forum reference: https://forums.adobe.com/message/7953365#7953365
I'm also running into quality issues with the various export features. 😕
So far, my best, yet most tedious option is to Export > Artboards to Images and do that for EACH of my layer comps, then assemble them into 1 PDF in Acrobat
In an ideal world my 1 PSD, with 3 Artboards and 12 Layer Comps, would kick out 36 individual, crisp, pages in 1 PDF.
When i export layer comps in cc 22015 the image is being reduced on export. The canvas size is the same as the original art board but now has a white border (or transparent if its a PNG) - any idea? Apple online support was stumped and hung up.
So that's part of the problem for me too. Here's my process:
• Select Layer Comp • Export > Artboards to FILES :: Be sure to select "Artboard Content Only" and Quality:12 (anything less starts getting pixellated for me. Boo.) • Run • Repeat for each layer comp • Select all exported jpegs/pngs/etc > Drag to Acrobat icon in dock to compile into 1 PDF
Tedious as hell but eliminates the undesired negative space + keeps my quality on point. Hope that helps!
Thanks - this was my first run-in with the multiple artboards and the file was set up by another freelancer. The multiple art boards weren't necessary for the project since its art for multiple touch panel screens with lots of common elements on each screen. Problem solved for now.
I would like to second this...a script that cycled through each layer comp and saved out each artboard separately would CHANGE MY LIFE!
I'd like to use layer comps for different pages and artboards for different device sizes when doing UI work. Unique artboards for each adds up to a slow, tedious to use document and it's hard to adjust global things that don't change on every page like a header graphic. There's so much redundancy. Layer comps don't handle canvas size changes, so that solution doesn't work alone either.
A script that did both would make a solid workflow for UI/web/app designers achievable! As it is now, I still have to keep desktop/tablet/mobile comps in separate documents to be able to export all quickly. It would be so nice to have one document, three artboards, and one layer comp for each state or page I wanted to show - and that I could export them out in a click!
I just export Layer Comps to PDF, which creates a multi page PDF that displays the artboards as well as the negative space between them. Once the PDF is created, I open it in Acrobat and carefully crop it down to the artboard I need. I then click within the crop to reveal the "Set Page Boxes" dialogue. Here I make sure to click "All" in the "Page Range" section, click "OK" and done.
There is this adjusted "layercomps to files" version Layer Comps To Artboard Files.jsx which does add artbaords. It has some issue with transparency not working and it always adds artboard names & index in the filename.
Im adjusting the script to make all options optional, i also got transparency working now
I want this feature too, but mostly what I'd prefer is the functionality of Layer Comps and Artboards to be merged. If Layer Comps could support a canvas size and a center, artboards would no longer be necessary.
