Slight Improvements to Existing Line/Comic/Cartoon Drawing

I (and I assume many others) use Photoshop to draw various images/cartoons/comics and unfortunately, even with adding various details, and even with smoothing for pen tools, my drawings still look amateur.

I was wondering if Adobe AI could fine-tune my (and others) comic/cartoon drawings to improve them slightly so they look more professional.

I am not looking for Adobe Generative Fill because that feature

1) creates items from scratch (instead of subtly fine-tuning what I already drew), and

2) creates photorealistic images (instead of the comic/cartoon styles that I am using).

This would be a more subtle tool and a finishing touch instead of Generative Fill doing most of the work.

This would be ideal because a subtle touch would hopefully ensure that the resulting images are still owned by their respective artists (who did most of the work) rather than the AI tools that created it (and the vague legalities regarding AI-created art).

In addition, since this tool would be subtly improving an artists' works (rather than generating an image from scratch), this would avoid any situation where many people use the same queries and get the same/similar image results (like in Generative Fill and similar AI tools).

Have you tried Adobe Illustrator, which may be better suited to the style you describe?

I was going to suggest similar. The feature request sounds like an automated raster>vector>raster conversion to smooth or clean "simple" linework.

As I understand it, you want Artificial Intelligence to change your amateur drawings into professional drawings. What is making your current drawings look amateur and what improvements do you think should occur to make them look more professional?

One additional word of warning. There are many publishers that prohibit the use of AI generated image content. The same with competitions. Look at your contracts very carefully and do not use any form of AI generated content, which sounds like what you are describing, even in parts of the image, if that is prohibited.

If your aim is to clean up the linework and even out the colour, look at Illustrator's Image Trace and then possibly LivePaint.

If you are trying to clean up the linework as suggested by Dave, Illustrator has one additional command that you can use for paths. I used Simplify on this lemon after I used ImageTrace. In both cases, the path started with 20 anchor points.

In this first one I chose Minimum and the path was reduced to 5 points. You can see how closely the new paths conforms to the original.

In this second one, I upped the setting to Maximum with 75%. This one yields 11 points and looks better.

Thank you @davescm! I am not as familiar with Adobe Illustrator but I will look more into using that, Image Trace and LivePaint. Thank you.

And thank you for the warning regarding using AI art. I just want to create my art and fine tune it, not have AI create it for me and then get affected by AI legal/publisher/contest issues, so your suggestions for Illustrator, Image Trace and LivePaint are extremely helpful so I can avoid these issues and keep my own work my own so thank you.

Thank you @Stephen_A_Marsh ! I will look into using that process: "automated raster>vector>raster conversion" in Adobe Illustrator which sounds that it would fit very well. Thank you!

Thank you @jane-e

There is something subtle between my drawings and professional cartoonists/comic drawings etc. that make my drawings look amateur. I need to think about a better way to describe what is missing.

I appreciate your suggestion for using Adobe Illustrator, using "Path to Image" and "Simplify" and showing me how to use it (I'm not as familiar with Illustrator so thank you) so I will look into it, and it is very helpful. Thank you!

That "automated raster>vector>raster" feature doesn't exist in Illustrator, however, there are the options as described by @davescm and @jane-e

I was trying to articulate what I believed that you were requesting.

It would help if you provided before and after image samples to illustrate your feature request, rather than us guessing what you really want.

I get it, you are not after "generative" AI like Adobe Firefly – you just want "simple" trained AI like Adobe Sensei.

Thank you. @Stephen_A_Marsh  I do not understand what Adobe Sensei is or the boundary between Firefly and Sensei. From my quick internet search, Sensei is some of the AI infrastructure under Photoshop and other program.

Here are some image examples of the "before", fragments of my drawings (I don't want to post complete images becuase the Internet is forever and I'm not done with creating). There is something about my drawings that don't quite reach professional capability, but are close. I do not have "after" images since I am not sure what concrete changes are needed to make these images look more professional.

Perhaps some of this has to do with just drawing some of these drawings again/better.

Hopefully, Adobe Illustrator's functions regarding translating images into vectors and back into raster images could help with this.

Note: I don't want to post my complete images on here and I purposefully chose one of my worst-drawn faces.

Perhaps I should also tag the others in addition so all of you have a better idea of what I am looking for.

Hey all,

If there is no solution, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. An answer that says that there is no solution is still appreciated.
