P: Audio of AVCHD files in .MTS format with PCM audio does not play correctly - sounds like noise

Using the latest version of PP (25.3.0) I was working on a project containing MTS video files, and all of a sudden the next day I opened up the project, and all of the audio tracks of the clips had max volume static (and nothing else). It had been working for several days. In the audio track timeline, it displays as just a solid bar, rather than a typical bar with variying levels as you'd expect (see attached). It is like this in the editor, and also if you export the video.

I messed with this for hours, including contacting Adobe Support Chat for about an hour. They weren't able to help. They left me with suggesting that I make sure all of my Windows updates were in place. I did that and still nothing. I messed with my video card drivers - making sure they were on the latest version, etc. I downloaded the AC3/AC4 codecs from the other Adobe post talking about MTS files not working in the latest version of Windows - that didn't help. I also have cleared cache several times, and I tried re-insatlling the latest version of PP.

If you open the files by themselves in Windows, they are fine. The audio is normal. They work fine in MS Clipchamp. They also work fine an older version of Premiere Pro that I downloaded (24.6.5). So, theoretically, I could start over and do this in 24.6.5, but I'd prefer to continue working in the latest version. I'm sure this is codec related or something, but I have hit a brick wall.

Has anyone else had this specific issue, and have you found a solution? Thanks

Hi all,

This issue has been fixed in the v25.4 release of Premiere Pro and Media Encoder.

I'm having the same issue. I'm using Windows 11, and the audio from my video camera sounds like noise. I tried opening it in Adobe Audition, and the result was the same—it still sounds like noise. My current workaround is to convert the audio using another application. However, this problem didn't occur in previous versions [of Adobe software]. I hope Adobe can provide a solution for this issue, as it's quite urgent. The camera I'm using is a Sony PXW-X70, and the format is MTS.

Hello, I am glad to know that the Adobe team is aware of the audio issue with MTS files.

Unfortunately, I have a large project that was almost finished and it is unthinkable to redo everything.

Do we have a planned update to fix the problem?

Their recommended process is simply to go back to 25.2. Easy to do. And keep working.

It has been several days.  Is there a fix yet?

BTW I'm not new, I'm just under a new position and new account.  We need this fixed or pointed to the correct posting for the fix.  I can't wait a month for another update push.  We need this fix now please.

BS, stop chastizing for upgrading and start demanding a proper update push.  If the adobe model is a monthly/annual subscription with monthly updates, they shouldn't create customers with update-regret

@RC-MNCPPC  100% agreed. How a bug this bad, which affects pretty much all AVCHD imports, gets by QA and still is not fixed is beyond me.

For the premium amount Adobe charges this is very sub-premium support.

This update should have been pulled.

Easy temporary fix, roll back one release to 25.2, and just keep working.

V.25.3 updated 5 days ago.  After upgrade....  now Having issue with importing iPhone video clips . . . But worked around that.  That's not the main problem.  Clips imported from iPhone audio is fine, but clips imported from MTS file the audio is just loud humming/buzzing.  The audio is fine when I test with v v.24.6.5.  Of course all the color labels changed again but I know how to fix that.  But the audio?  That is a huge issue especially since I am working on a video project now.  Appreciate any help before I call in.  Thanks!IMG_0921.jpeg

mts files have audio issues with 25.3, so they suggest reverting to 25.2 for now. The fix will probably be 25.4, but no idea when that comes out.

Thanks for the response.  That sucks.  Why do a upgrade that doesn't work for a widely used video file.  UG!  I'll work around it for now   . . .   : ))))

I reverted back to 25.2.3 and got the .MTS audio normal again.

BUT when I use 25.3.0 imported clips the timeline shows audio as static noise, although it sounds normal.

So maybe it is something happening during "Generating Peak File"??

Like between mic level vs. line level...?

Here is little screengrab, last three clips were imported first to 25.3. and here in imported to 25.2 time line.PPro25_2_3_Timeline.jpg

For all those having this issue ..... just got off phone with Adobe.  They are aware of the audio issue and will have a fix within 2 weeks.  They recommended I just revert back to a earlier version - which I did.  All good now and will work on older version until they figure it out and send out the revised version.  Glad it wasn't just me with the issue!

Good morning!  I had the same issue and Adobe kowe about this problem with the most current update.  Recommends to go back to earlier version for now until they update and address this issue.  I did just that and will work on that version until they send out the update.  They said within 2 weeks.

As is said in quite a number of threads here, they are working on the fix, but for now, revert to 25.2 with that media.

When they get a fix, they'll probably drop it first in a public beta patch (they do those daily) before dropping a new general release update. So you probably should check in the public beta forum for news.

I'm legit having this same issue right now. I had to revert back to 25.2.3 and it's working. I was just going to make a post about this when I saw yours.

I installed the latest Premiere Pro 2025 version yesterday. Unfortunately, I found out that the software handled my .mts files (AVCHD recordings) badly. First, it spent lots of time reading the files, and when that process was over, the files only partially worked. For instance, the audio was mostly pure noise.

I then read about the problem in various forums and could see that it was a well-known problem with Premiere Pro. I tried to install a Dolby patch I found, but that didn't work. I seriously considered quitting Premiere Pro altogether (as I have loads of AVCHD footage, and I don't want to spend hours converting it), but then - as a last resort - I tried the oldest Premiere Pro version that's in the Adobe Cloud. And it worked flawlessly!

So now I'm using a 2024 version. But hoping to switch to a more recent version if this gets fixed.

Thanks! For some reason, this didn't come up despite repeated searches on the subject. Still, this problem is several weeks old now, so I hope it will get solved soon. Besides, while it may be a problem related to the audio, it's the files that work badly and can't hardly be played, it's not just the audio part of them.
P.S.: I have Windows 11

My workaround was to render the files in Handbrake to .mp4 then use those on the timeline. Fortunitely I only had one file to work with for this project. If I had a whole timeline full of M2TSs, I'd be in trouble!

Adobe should alert customers and send a quick fix. I've been trying to work around it for days and now I find this blog and should go back to 25.2. All was good then. Why the rush with all these updates? Get it worked out please. I've been an Adobe customer since 1993.

Question about the sound from the *mts file (LEGRIA HF G30 camera).
I'm uploading the files to Premiere Pro 2025 (v25.3, Win 10) and instead of normal sound I hear only noise....
About a month ago I processed other recordings and it was ok, and today such a surprise.
I should add that I play the raw file from the camera through video players and the picture/sound is ok!
Has anyone encountered such a problem?
