PC crashes to black screen when working with ProRes 422 Proxy files

I am experiencing my PC crashing to a black screen when working with ProRes 422 Proxy files. I have not tested with other types of ProRes media. The same files work and playback without causing any crashes in VLC and other editing software. When the computer crashes to black, all the buttons (including the power button) are totally unresponsive and I have to turn the computer off at the PSU in order to restart it.

The crash happens on Premiere 25.1, 25 and 24.6.4. I can easily reproduce the crash by importing a lengthy (~40 minute) 1080p ProRes 422 Proxy video to a sequence, playing at double speed and clicking through random parts of the clip. It crashes after around 10-20 seconds of this.

The crash happens both when Cuda acceleration is on or off in Project Settings. It also crashes whether or not Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is on or off.

System:

Windows 11 24h2 (also crashes on 23h2)

Ryzen 5950x

128gb Ram

RTX 4070 Ti Super (Driver version - 566.36, also crashes on 572.16)

Hi @joesguitar -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

Where is the media file from?

Can you download mediainfo and post a screenshot of the properties.

Do you have any plugins or third party panels installed?

Sorry for the frustration.

Hi Jamie,

The files were provided by a client. I also experience the same crash with Premiere-generated proxies using the default "ProRes Quicktime Proxy".

I do not have any third party extensions or plugins installed.
