Stability is at the lowest right now.

I don't know why, but over the past 2 years, Premiere Pro has been getting worse and worse at stability.

Now, every time I try to open a project, even with all resources on an SSD, Premiere is still laggy and, most of the time, would not even load a program or source monitor. Playback , even in HD, is impossible; now, every time I want to work on something, I have to delete all cache files just to get 30 minutes of less laggy workflow and then restart the whole process.

Then there are times when the media encoder or in-program premiere rendering would just stop for no reason and get stuck at a random point during the exporting and just stay there, with no warnings, no reports.

It cost a lot for your subscription. Fix the program.

My pc is i9 12900K with 3080 so don't say my pc is not enough.

If you'd like to provide specific issue reports (with instructions that reliably reproduce the problem), we'd be happy to try to help.

Based on the details you've provided, it sounds as though PPro's having a rough time with the media you're using.

Confirming: Deleting cache files results in a few minutes of unimpeded editing?

There's nothing specific, all I was doing was opening and importing simple video sources. No fancy effects, just simple cuts and some After Effects comps but still it's not the problem because when I'm rendering Pr or ME just randomly stuck at different points. I can't playback to edit, I can't preview source monitor normally, basically I have to edit based on what I'm imagining. The sequence resolution is 1920x858 so nothing too heavy like 4K and program preview never smooth even less than 1 second. My pc can edit 4K+ smoothly on Davinci Resolve.

Well that's not working anymore. As you can see here, there's no preview no matter what I try. I even render all the AE comps to replace but still not working.

Thanks for the additional testing!

As before: If you can provide necessary projects+media, as well as (important!) step-by-step instructions that reliably reproduce the behavior, we'd be happy to pursue it further.

Seems like you can reproduce the issues; I've emailed you a link to some private upload space.

Sorry I don't see any email for a private link.

I don't understand by providing projects + media. Like you want me to send you the whole project or something?

Basically I just open a normal project, create a sequence 1920x858 24fps. Then importing normal H264 video sources, no raw videos, a few 10bit color files but not much, when I try rendering for the first time it did not work, still the same problem here. I tried updating NVIDIA driver but still not rendering.  There's one point I got kicked out of my Adobe license by some nvidia driver update that cause windows firewall to block Creative Cloud, I have resolved that. But in conclusion, I have been experiencing low stability and performance since the start. Recently I've switched from Pr to Davinci Resolve and I have never got a problem, but since I need after effect for this project I edit in PR to use AE Comp replacement so I download the latest version and the beta version from creative cloud.

Okay I understand, it gonna took some time to upload since where I live upload internet is limited. However I did try using Project Manager to copy all the files into another folder, then I tried opening and rendering again. The issue however, did produce a few more times, but then still be able to render the whole video. I try this method twice, once for a small demo, and another one I just did a few minutes ago. Both times acted the same way.

I meant a demo of my project. It gonna took me some time to upload the files, but then hopefully you guys can make the program more stable and smooth. I think this problem mostly connected to media cache system

I have uploaded all the files. I created another project to edit audio because the original one this too laggy (after I've succeeded in rendering the original one), workflow was less laggy but workable. However the rendering issue still present. Please check the link you sent me for the files

Then there are times when the media encoder or in-program premiere rendering would just stop for no reason and get stuck at a random point during the exporting and just stay there, with no warnings, no reports.

If so...what specific steps shall we follow, to reproduce that rendering issue?

Yes, it's the same issue. I'm not sure which step-by-step, what I was doing is Sequence -> Render entire work area, but it still stop sometimes, then I tried go to Export tab, and export a normal h.264 mp4 format, with 48Mbps, video resolution was 1920x858 24fps.

Without a specific output preset (.epr file), it's impossible to say whether I'm exactly matching your output settings, but I can't get rendering "MAIN REEL" to fail, mac or windows, currently shipping PPro.

Okay, I've made a screen capturing video of how I open and export/render the project through Media Encoder/In PPro render/ work area render. In the video you can see that all methods of rendering is not working. All of my file is on a 1GB/s SSD. I've upload the video in the folder you sent me, please check it out.

The warning is any offline media will be replaced as Media Offline slate. Although there aren't any offline media in the timeline.

Cool.

I see the problem you're hitting in the video, but have been (so far) unable to generate any issues, here. I've asked Support to provide some guidance...

Hey there, @Thieu Minh. Hi @Bruce Bullis.

Thanks for the info and your patience on this. We had a report from the assisted support team that the latest NVIDIA driver is causing a lot of trouble. What you might try doing is one of the following:

  • Roll back the NVIDIA driver
  • Export in HEVC, not H.264
  • Export using Software Encoding

Let us know if the earlier driver works. If not, see if one of the other options might work for you. Please let us know what's going on. I hope the community can help you. Sorry for the hassle!

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello @Kevin-Monahan

Thank you for the feedback.

I would also like to add to this.

First, I was at NVIDIA driver version 545.92 when I experienced the issues like I have informed you. At first I thought that it was a driver problem and I did try to update to driver version 551.62. The performance was worsen by a lot. There are times I could not even open the project, then I rolled back to 545.92 and the issues still present.

Second, even before exporting to H.264, I even tried in-timeline workare render for preview and it still not rendering. There are times I was able to render parts of the timeline, but previews are still not consistent, there are still lags and stuttering playbacks.

Third, I appreciate the idea of using software rendering, but then it's no meaning in investing my rig then software rendering.

Finally, I know you guys are trying your best and I love Premiere Pro, but years ago Premiere are very stable and smooth. Unfortunately it was not the case recently. 2 years ago when I decided to subscribe to Adobe, I was hoping for better experiences but honestly I have not. I hope you guys can deliver one separate certified stable, smooth and reliable version of Premiere.

Hi there,

Thanks for trying to roll back the driver. I'm sorry it didn't work. You can't render effects? That's weird. Which codec are you using for video previews? The ask to try out Software Rendering was for a test. Can you try that test? What happens? Have you tried an HEVC export? Let me know. Another test you can try is to use standard resolutions, like 1920 x 1080. Do things work normally, then? Sorry for the negative experience. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of your issues.

Thanks,
Kevin
