Premiere Pro defaults to the Documents folder in the local user's folder.
To troubleshoot this issue, try saving a Word document (or Notepad file) and a Photoshop document to the same location as a Premiere Pro project and monitor what does or does not remain in that location.

Regarding OneDrive there is nothing to troubleshoot. I made a short video that shows what happens when starting OneDrives backup of the Documents folder and then stopping it. (Vice versa produces the same result as well.)
Note that when i start the backup in the beginning the Adobe folder and all it´s content silently dissapear. Some folders i apparently had in my OneDrive do show up. When i stop the backup all folders but a folder named Enpass are silently deleted. The app Enpass is running i the background and is the reason to why that folder could not be deleted.
Again, Adobe should stop to default to this folder since it is by mistake or not too easy for a cloud app to delete everything without alerting the end user. For some time now posts like this pops up, the users projects and all source files are just gone. I still think that Premiere Pro is not to blame for the deleted files. Look at the video and see how easy the files are deleted by OneDrive. I see many peoples screen dumps here showing that project files and source media is stored in C:\Users\UserName\Documents.
This should be adressed by Adobe asap.

I would stop using your OneDrive until you determine why files are being deleted.
Even with that resolved, I would turn off sync while editing.
If looking to work from cloud storage, use something specifically made for it like LucidLink.

So it's listed on the home screen but when you click to open it, it's gone?
Nothing is listed on the home screen?
You've searched your drive(S) and not found any *.prproj files?

Same here, yesterday some of my video files on timeline went grey striked (but I was tired and thought I would deal with it today and well today I don't have anything to deal with, *.prproj files on my pc gone, all :DD wow..

Files deleted a month ago are still scrapable from the recycle bin, but the working files from yesterday are gone :))

So it's a Windows machine. What things transpired since yesterday? Is your disk suspect? (if so, do not Write anything to the disk). Give us some clues. AFAIK: the files only get into the Recycle bin by deleting them, so you must have deleted some.

Yes W11. Disk is OK. Yes, the ones I deleted could be restored with a file restoration app, even though they were deleted (as I mentioned earlier, A MONTH AGO). However, the ones I was working on, AND DID NOT DELETE, including autosaves and temporary renders, BECAUSE YES I TEND NOT TO DELETE MY WORKING FILES, SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDING MUSIC VIDEOS OR PHOTO, were all wiped out with this God-forsaken program.

SAME. EXACT. THING.
The project has dissapeared. All other projects and auto saves remain in the usual folder.
THE PROJECT I WAS WORKING ON..... GONE!
THIS IS AS ABSOLUTELY INSANE.
MORE THAN 200 HOURS OF WORK.
WTF??!! @ADOBE

Open the most recent auto-save and then do file Save As to save it as your current project.
Assuming your Premiere Pro Auto Save is set to the dedault increment, you should only have to redo the last 15 minutes of work.
For important projects, I either schedule the folder with the projects files to be cloned to a backup nightly or manually copy the current project files to a USB Flash drive or upload it to cloud storage.

As @Warren Heaton said.
Also, if you have any other drives, copy the project to some other drive always. Everytime you do enough to wish you never have to do it again, make a copy / backup. Usually I'll copy the project over to a data drive every morning, to have a safe start, I number the backups and keep using the original.

I also just had this exact same thing happen. Project file itself completely gone, was there under recent files, clicked on it, nothing. All of the autosaves were there, so I don't think I lost anything in terms of work, but Adobe... why is my project file completely GONE!?
These "expert" replies are ridiculous. Simply back up your files, because you know how files can just disapear themselves.

Are you using any file syncing app, like OneDrive or ... anything? As those apps routinely can cause this to happen.

Nope, just a simple file saved on my hard drive... completely disapeared like it never existed.

Which OS, and where was it saved?
Have you checked for hidden files?

Hi Kuriscak,
We're sorry to hear about this. Have you tried searching for .prproj on your system to see if it lists the project that you are looking for?
Thanks,
Sumeet
