Audio File Doesn't Import Properly - Skips jumps compressed

Hello! PLease help. I am using CS6 PPro and when I import my audio file, the file looks all squashed and compressed in the Source window, When I hit play, it jumps, skips and sounds horrendous. When I open the file in other programs like VLC or Windows Media player, it plays perfectly fine. It somehow just doenst import correctly even though Ive tired importing multiple ways. I have seen some other chats similar to this problem and it talks about deleting metadata etc. I'm not hugely tech savy so if someone could please help spell out in lay-may terms, exactly what steps to take to solve this issue it would be greatly appreciated. I've just about had it with this issue!

Please try this.

1. Click on Start and type '%appdata%' (without quotes) and hit Enter.

2. Then, Adobe-> Common.

3. Finally, delete the 'Media Cache' and 'Media Cache Files' folders.

4. Open Premiere Pro and check the files again.

Hi Amanda,

Please close all Adobe apps and try deleting the cache once. The default location of cache is as stated below-

1. Windows-> C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common

2. Mac-> user library-> Application Support-> Adobe-> Common

Delete 'Media Cache' and 'Media Cache Files' folders when you get to the location.

In case, you have cache saved in a custom location, you can check the same by going into Preferences-> Media cache. Then close Premiere Pro. Go to that custom location and delete the above two folders.

I have a similar issue.  I downloaded a song from Amazon last night (MP3) and when I import it, it skips and sounds terrible.  I even tried to open up Adobe Encoder and convert to a wave file and got the same issue.  I hope this fixes it.

I have gone into the folder you described but I do not see any folders with the name of "Media Cache" or "Media Cache Files".

And when I have gone to Preferences > Media it does say that the database for saving media cache files is in the Common folder as you described.

How do I identify the Media cache folder please?

You are probably going into the Macintosh HD Library. I advised you to go to User Library. To access the same.

1. In Finder, Go-> Go to Folder.

2. Type '~/library ' (without quotes). Click on Go.

3. That's the user library.

4. Then, Application Support-> Adobe-> Common.

5. Delete 'Media Cache' and 'Media Cache Files' folders.

I am using a PC WINDOWS 10... I don't have any idea where "Finder" is? Do you mean my main search bar? I typed ~/library and it didnt lead anywhere. Please advise

I did what you said and the audio is still messed up. also all my files that held the stuff i was using now no longer shows up in premiere. Could it be that I am downloading it from Itunes? I am on windows 10 if that helps.

I Will say, that if you have issues playing a file that previously worked, it could also be your hard drive. It took me 12 hrs to realize the issue was with my external HD..  Copy the music track onto a different drive and play it . . . that will tell you 🙂
