Best export settings for YouTube

Hey guys,

I'm trying to export a 1080p HD video to YouTube. I exported it as an H.264 file the first time and when I posted to YouTube, it just doesn't look right. It looks like standard definition for some reason but it says it's in HD. What are the best export settings for YouTube? Also, i am shooting on a Sony a6500.

Hi Ben,

Have you given YouTube enough time to generate an HD version? Sometimes it takes some time. Check it again.

Sure. I just watched a video by Potato Jet on YouTube. He said it's been over 40 hours and his 8K clip is still being "processed." Let us know if the video finally got to 1080p quality so we can close this case. If not, we'll stand by to assist.

After you export, have you watched your clip before uploading it to youtube? Does it look HD before you upload?

Please post a screen shot of the Export Settings used. Did you actually choose a YouTube preset or use something else? Sometimes the Sequence Setting is incorrect, for instance DV (SD), so even though the source clip is HD, running it through an SD Sequence lowers the quality to SD even though you might later export as HD. So let's see the settings to make sure everything looks good, that is step 1.

Since YouTube re-encodes the files one upload i do always export using the CineForm codec and upload that file. Choose QuickTime as Format in the export settings dialog.

Pro: Better quality

Con: Larger file, takes longer to upload.
