Can I start editing without audio files attached yet?

I have got a hard drive with just footage on it from my client, I have asked for them to send over the sound files but it could take a while, I am on a tight schedule and would love to start editing, can you start doing selects, edits, etc. before you have sound and somehow attach the sound later or is that not a possibility?

This is not adviseable. You'll be setting yourself up for a lot of headache. I would wait for the sound files.
