Okay so basically I imported a .avi file of about 15 gigs. When I look at it in the preview, it is choppy and slow, and even freezes. I read I needed to render the preview sequence. I selected the part I wanted to render but when I click "render selection" or "render from in and out" it just plays my video. I noticed there wasn't any red or yellow or green bar on top of my sequence: I only got it once on an other try and I was able to render it. Why doesn't it appear on my project? How can I make the red bar appear in order to render my preview? Thanks alot!
The problem is Pr does not like h.264 codec in an avi wrapper.
Convert to mp4 with HandBrake and try again.

EDIT:
Okay so I found a way to get the yellow bar.
I searched a sequence configuration with 60fps (as my video) and I picked this one :
Magic: the yellow line appeared!
When I use HDV or DV like this:
It didn't work!
So now I have to figure out what's the difference and what is DnxHD...

Okay did it and also worked, the problem with DNxHD was that the sound was really poor quality. I imported the new Handbrake converted video in a AVCHD timeline, wich now does display the yellow line and has good audio quality. Thanks alot!
But my question is, Handbrake did reduce a 25 gig file to a 6 gig file, but I don't notice any quality change. I selected a lossless CFR ("placebo" as in the program") but it still did reduce drastically my file. Is this usual?
