CC 2017: An unknown error occurred while opening the project.

A couple days ago I spent all day editing a project. It's about 10 minutes long and consists of all iPhone videos - various frame rates and resolutions. It came out great and I closed the project for the night. The next day I came back and tried to open the project and after the loading bar completes, I get the error: An unknown error has occurred while opening the project. Other projects open normally. New projects open normally. But this one does not. I am so upset and frustrated about the lost work.

I went to my recent auto saves and they give me the same error. If I go way back in the auto saves, they will open normally but that was before many hours of additional work on the edit.

I made a new project and tried to import the old project and I get the error: The importer reported a generic error.

I used Media Browser to view the project and the window where I should see everything is blank, even after the loading bar finishes.

I used Project Repair from Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools which thinks it has repaired the project, but I get the same error when trying to open it.

I used CS Repair from Digital Rebellion's Pro Maintenance Tools to trash Premiere preferences. No help either.

I googled the error message endlessly and although the same question has been asked, none of them got an answer.

Please advise.

Due to time constraints on our side we rebuilt the days work yesterday so I wouldn't want you to spend any more time on this.

However, if you were able to explain what you believe to cause these issues I am sure it would be helpful for everyone on this thread should there be any issues in future?

There is no single cause of project file corruption. It can strike at any time.

It can range from some combination of functions that you performed in the project, but it could also be related to project management, file management, storage issues, and issues related to your media files.

I find that most corruptions occur with complicated, bloated (many, many sequences—especially multicamera sequences or feature film length sequences), complex projects that have tons of media objects, have been updated over multiple versions with little care to keeping the project as "lean and mean," organized, and functional as possible. When projects get to this stage, it is very important to duplicate the entire project on a daily or twice daily to ensure that you always have a clean backup in case situations like this arise.

Exactly this problem may has different causes vary from codec issues to

hardware and plugins failures.

In your case it seems the problem is a specific plugin.

Always keep in mind if your project file size going to increase

irrationally there is a problem and you should stop using a video filter or

plugin.

Usually your project file size even on a project like "The Avatar" ! or

Lord of the rings should not pass over 50 MB. Recently I was working on a

corrupted project file with 1GB size.

them project size reached below 16 MB.

So always be careful about your project file size​. this is very very

different from your footages, we are talking about a text base file,

processing and saving such a big text file always is a high risk task even

with high level hard wares.

Since first time I post on this thread till now every week there are somebody with this annoying error referring to me to help them, some I was able to recover their project and some not, but always you can count on me for such a problem and almost every email has been responded less than 1 day. some times less than an hour.

Thanks for trying. Yes I have autosaves they work tho.

But I had an edit of 36 minuts and the last autosave stops by 22 minuts.

It was a big edit, but than I'll start again by 22 minuts.

Save often and save a copy on another drive.
