Color no showing correctly in program monitor

Community Beginner ,

I have a problem where the colors are not displaying corectly in the program monitor.

My version or Pr is 24.6.0 and I am on a macbook pro M3 Max 14 inch with macOS Sonoma 14.6.1

It is most noticable when a clips obacity is changed and there is nothing under it. The blacks become washed out and lifted. If i render a preview it will display the corect color. Attached is a side by side view of a clip the left side of the clip is the colors on export and when I render a preview the right side is what I see while im trying to color grade (I edited these two scren shots in photosshop to show the color difrenc side by side).

The clip is at 60% opasity at the screen shot. The clip starts out at 100% opacity and then dips to 60% as the text apears. It's also worth noting that there is nothing under this clip like black video or black solid. The left side is the color on export and color when I render a preview. The right side is what I see while im try to color grade. After rendering the preview within premiere the blacks get much deeper. This problem is reminisant of mac users complaing about colors looking difrent on export due to quicktime's gamma interpritation. The big difrence here is that is all happing inside Premiere.

I was thinking the fix to this would be a new color managemnt setting as adobe has been making alot of changes in that area but i have had no sucess. Attached is  a screen shot of my color management settings.

another problem i've seen is that black video is not black (it's slightly lighter then black) until a preview is rendered. Once a preview is renderd it apeas black again. these problems seem related. in this  screenshot you can see a corisontal band of dark grey. this is black video with a mask to create a horisontal bar across the center of the frame.

First, also set the auto detect log to on in your CM settings.

Next, I couldn't tell if you are noting this inside Premiere, or outside when viewing the export in a player ... ?

What's the media involved? Codec, produced by what?

And this is only when you change opacity? I can't tell precisely, hence I'm asking.

After some more testing this is only happening when the opacity is changed and it is happening on all media tested. I have tested with 8 bit H264 4k from a Sony a7iv and some older MOV files from a cannon and a DJI drone that I am unsure of.

And what do you have the Program monitor set to? If you make sure that high quality is set in the Program monitor menu, does this issue go away?

Hello @Greg24030637pxqq,

Do you want to troubleshoot this issue with the community? I hope we can help you. I have heard of a similar issue. Do you have the Transparency Grid enabled in the Program Monitor? Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin
