Hello,
I edit for a living so it is frustrating that any change in my timeline on Premiere Pro, it lags. I have to constantly wait a few seconds with each change. Obviously, this isn't sustainable so any help would be REALLY appreciated. I have followed every youtube tutorial on the settings inside the software to make it run fast and nothing has helped. Today, I ran the task manager (shown below) and this is when I realized when I play the timeline in the software, the memory shoots up to almost fall capacity, so I'm guessing this is the main problem... I need more RAM. I'm Just wondering if it could be anything else? Do I need an internal SSD storage, if so what for? Could it be the latest prem pro Update? What RAM should I get? Can my GPU be used more or not?
I run my files and profile files on my desktop
I deal with 1920x1080 footage and around 50-100gb at a time
Here are my PC specs:
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Processor
RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD & 512 GB SSD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8 GB

Tested out proxies last night and it worked like a treat thank you so much for all your help. Extra RAM is on its way soon too.
With proxies, just to confirm... Right-click on the footage > proxy > create proxies > Quicktime & low-resolution proxy. Then you can turn it off on as you wish and when exporting it will render without the proxy automatically?
Just want to make sure that is all correct and settings are all right. Thanks again!

Yep, when you export it will use the full-res media.
Don't forget to add a proxy toggle button to your Program Monitor:
You may also want to put the Global FX Mute button on there (5 to the left from the proxy button in that pic). That way if you have a effects slowing your timeline down you can mute them all (that one you will need to remember to turn back on.)
Also, when you get to color grading, you'll probably want to toggle the proxies off so you are working with the data of your original images.

Thank you. I think they deffo need to add the proxy watermark back so you're aware of when it's added!

You can add watermarks but you'll need to set up your own encoding preset in Adobe Media Encoder 🙂

Its clearly an issue - I experience exactly the same symptoms.
I am a S/W developer, and this seems like poor S/W engineering and/or QA.
Used to work fine - same project, same computer, previous version of Pro CC 2019.
Now it's NOT
While proxies might be a solution, it;s like saying - drive your porche at 20 mph - and it will go smooth.
It really is NOT the solution, and just a cheap workaround for poor programming.
So now, I have to waste disc space, AND TIME, to render these proxies, simply because the S/W has degraded to the point that it cannot do, what it used to be able to do, in previous versions.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
Adobe - when will you address the real performance/stability issues with the product?
The timline LAG, is a known issue, and the forums are alive with comments about it. Can you please provide an adequate response to this issue, AND train your support personnel to be of help, debugging/resolving these issues, when we (paid customers) are calling for support? (instead of getting the boilerplate response of "throw more H/W at the problem)

S.
If deleting media cache does not assist you, please give your system specs and media type so we can assist. Problem is that the most common media type is also the least performant. And between AMD and Intel CPUs, the former does not have hardware decoding capability. So, it's not as cut and dried as you make it. You have to have a balanced system and workflow and it's been that way since the dawn of NLE time.
That said, download the beta version which will be better for those running cheaper AMD CPU setups via using the GPU for decoding, not the CPU. Might work better in your case. Hope we can help.
Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin,
I reported my system specs in another thread, here :
Adobe Premiere Pro CC 14.4 Overall Slow Performance
Would it be possible to take a look at that thread?
Via my own debugging, I think I've at least identified the known Warp Stab <data-inside-project-file> as one very key element to the overall system performance degradation. With a project file of 120Mb, it contains about 30 x Stabilized clips - and I think this is also problematic on the timeline editor performance, despite using the gloabal fx mute.
My system performance degradation is measured over a few months, and with no change in my workflow or media types - so my metric for performance is based on a known baseline. Using this method, seems to suggest that something else is changing over time - either the O/S, and/or the Application S/W.
Yes - I work with very common media types HD and 4k, and again - that all used to work fine, but not anymore.
