I downloaded a stock video clip from the web that was a 1.5 GB .mov file. I wanted to make reduce the file size, so I cropped the video in Adobe Media Encoder, and exported it as a .mp4 file. It seemed to work great, as the file size went down to 64 MB. But when I drop it into my Premiere Pro project, it gets to the point where I cropped it and shows a "frame substitution recursion" error. Is this a bug, or did I do something wrong?

To make the filesize smaller you dont need to crop, just lower de bitrate.
filesize = duration x bitrate.

Nevertheless, I wanted to crop it as well because I knew I wouldn't be needing the latter half.

Make it shorter by deleting the last half.

That would be cutting, not cropping.
