in the 2020 version when i either try to trim backwords or forwords, or try to extend my edit to the playhead premiere automaticly goes into trim mode. is there a way to disable it or am i doomed to work from the 2019 version from now on?

In Premiere Pro 14.0.3, we reverted this behavior based upon issues & feedback. The Playhead will once again remain where you left it when using Trim shortcuts.
Sorry for any inconviences this may have caused in previous releases. The change to have Trim follow Playhead was based upon customer feedback and as we know now, a number of people were not happy with this change. This feature was reverted based upon forum feedback, s

Thank you Trent. I would love a preference to change this in the future. At the speed in which I edit I'm very often making one to two frame adjustments throughout playback, especially when working with clients and not wanting to interupt the flow of the cut during their viewing while I'm making polishing updates along the way. I know this sentiment is shared by a number of my peers, so any adjustments to provide that option would be great.
In the meantime, this latest update is still a strong improvement from the previous issues.
Much appreciated

please add a preference that can controll this. Most of the time i manage to edit almost in realtime while the playback is running, not being able to do so has made my editing flow much slower

Hi Trent, thank you for listening. It would be great to have a preference that prevents going into Edit Mode automatically.
For example, in the past I made strong use of "E" in order to extend edits and then hit Space bar to play on.
However, now, in Trim Mode, instead of playing on, it does a play around, which is rather annoying. Please allow for the old behavior, which was a lot more fluid.

Thanks for the update Trent. I'd like to second making this new behavior a Preference.
Also while you guys are adding functionality could we have a trim indicator like Avid, always felt like it was missing in Premiere.

Even when not trimming during playback, the playhead jumps after every frame, making it only possible to use the ripple trim keyboard shortcut for a few seconds before having to activate it every time. This is pretty useless if you need to ripple trim forward or back more than 1 frame.

This is a great point as well, there are plenty of times when I'm trying to trim frames to reach a certain point and having the playhead jump makes this not work. Generally speaking it just seems better to not have the playhead moving automatically as it would be very easy to just manually go to that point if desired. These sorts of automatic lags are a big reason my company shifted away from Avid, where efficiency goes to die.

Thanks for working on this trim mode issue and coming up with a fix so quickly!
To echo the other user's comments, I have to agree about it being better practice to keep the scrubber independent of trim commands. In leu of that being the default, a menu option would be FANTASTIC 🙂

We felt it was best to roll back the changes to keep our existing behavior, until we can come up with a better solution.

Well, look. It's bad UI design to "enable" something I don't want, and not provide a way to disable it. Period.
Put it in "Preferences: Trim".

Thanks Trent!
Appreciate you all taking the time to figure out the best solution here. Glad to know this feature has been reverted even though I understand the mentality behind the previous update. Looking forward to trying out the fix once we have footage to edit again! ;)~
