Progress Panel - No Documentation

One mention here:
"During a Copy and Create Proxies operation, … monitor the progress panel for completion ..."

No other mention in the entire documentation history explaining anything about this panel to users.

What function does this panel have? What features can a user expect to find here? How can a user interact with this panel? What is the expected behaviour?

Yes, pretty amazing lack of documentation. I suspect some of this is because a) it is being shared by multiple functions, some of which did not exist previously (speech to text), it is showing information, not explaining functions (which are in other help sections), and c) the functions are still being worked on. But the basic information needs to be in the documentation.

Here's most of what I know....

It appears to me that many panels are addressed in general in terms of Panel behavior, but don't have their own page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/panels.html

In addition to proxy function, transcription appears in the Progress Panel.

The percent completed appears in the Progress Panel but does not in the Transcription Panel. This can be useful to track.

Note that there is also a Progess Dashboard introduced in 23.4.See "Dashboard for background processes" here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/whats-new/2023-4.html

When it is "off," you can see the "Open Progress Dashboard" icon easily. When the dashboard is "on," the icon is almost invisible. But it is there. And even though its tooltip still says "Open Progress Dashboard," it will turn it off. You can also dismiss it with Escape. It does not appear to be dockable or resizable.

When "progress" occurs the icon changes to a broken circle. Upon completion, it changes briefly to a circle with a checkmark.

So if you don't want to dock the Progress panel or navigate to Window-> x to open it, you can click the Progress Dashboard icon.

Stan Jones,

Thanks for your detailed and helpful response (per usual).

I'll add:

1. The progress panel is now used to give an indication of media relinking upon opening a project.

2. Progress Panel "Auto-Colour Disabled" messages mystery

3. two ideas / wishlist items:

- peak file generation progress in progress panel

- progress panel resizing / display
