Editing Premiere Sequences as Multitrack Sessions in Audition

New Here ,
Jul 11, 2017 Jul 11, 2017

I just upgraded to the 2017.1.2 Releases of Premiere Pro and Audition CC.

In the past when I wanted to edit a Premiere sequence's audio in Audition (Edit>Edit in Adobe Audition>Sequence...), the sequence would appear in Audition as a multitrack session and I would be able to adjust clips individually as well as by track. Now when I try to use the same process, a dialogue box appears in Audition with the header "Import Premiere Pro Sequence," and I can choose the sequence to open. I select the sequence and it opens as what looks like a mixed-down session, all the clips together in a single file, not a multitrack sequence in which I can edit each individual clip.

Is there now a different way to export the sequence from Premiere to Audition as a multitrack session? Is this still a capability?

Hi chrisl13251085,

Thanks for posting in Adobe Forums.

After Edit > Edit in Audition > Sequence, In Edit in Audition window, rename the Name section & check.

Please let us know the status.

Thanks,

Vidya.

Hi Vidya,

That didn't seem to work. Here is a video of what happened. Let me know if I'm doing something incorrectly or should try something else.

I've used this process three times in the past week.  It worked just as your 'past' description specifies.

Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas why it isn't working that way for you now.

Huh! Are you using the latest versions? I'm thinking of reverting to previous versions of Pr and Au for the time being.

Yes, Premiere Pro 2017.1.2 and Audition 2017.1.1.  The process works fine.

I've also done a few with this Premiere and Audition version on Windows 10.

Just as a test create a multitrack session in Audition and save it. Close Audition, double click the new ses file and see if Audition opens as expected.

Thanks. That test worked just fine. I guess it may be helpful to know that I'm on a Mac! When going between Premiere and Audition, no .sesx file is created, which may be where the issue stems from.

Problem solved! (Sort of.) I rolled Audition back to 2017.0.2 (but left Premiere at the current version, because the file wouldn't be backwards compatible). There was a warning dialog about updating Audition, but the sequence did go through as a multitrack, which I was able to edit just fine.

Hi chrisl13251085,

Glad it's working with the previous version of Adobe Audition. We are trying to recreate the issue in our environment. We shall update the status. Thanks. Vidya.

Thanks,

Vidya.

Vidya, I am having the same problem, but don't see how to reinstall an earlier version of audition that is later that CC6 from my adobe menu.  Any help for either installing an appropriate earlier version or a resolution to this problem?

I was struggling with the same problem as well. The fix is super simple --- just make sure all your tracks (both video & audio) in Premiere are unlocked before you send the sequence to Audition.

That's all it took for me. No rollback required. Hope it works for you.

You, sir, are a life send. I could reach across the internet and kiss you. I was reading this thread yesterday before you responded with the exact issue, and only came back to cry for help. Thank you so much, helped me out of a jam.

This unlocking issue solved one issue for me but not all. I am having tons of issues trying to edit sequences from Premiere CC 2018 in Audition CC 2018. Here is my latest. It finally does open but it's a weird warning and it took me like six tries to get here:

I am having the same issue.  But I don't know where to get the down grade.  Tried "other versions" but it only gave me cc6, which didn't work at all.

Has there been any resolution to this?  I am on a mac, with cc 2017 premier pro, 2017 audition (17.1.1)

I'm getting this using 2018 versions of both PP and Audition - solution ? Export a Final Cut XML from PP, open that in Audition 2017 (I uninstalled 2018 as per above) and it's got all the tracks in a multitrack sequence

You are a genius! everyone else on this godforsaken adobe forum needs to take note, this is the only legitimate solution I think I've ever found on this cesspool website that only a piece of s*** like adobe could conjure up... anyway thanks for the solution, it worked!
