Its been implied that the cause of some crashes is due to an NVidia Card and its driver. Is that to say if I switch to a different video card that it will solve the problem?
There have been problems reported with Adobe programs, and recent nVidia drivers. These issues seem to mostly trace back to two gamer-only modules: PhysX and 3D Stereovision. The disabling of these two modules have been almost 100% effective.
If you have either/both, disable them and test.
Good luck,
Hunt

I have no idea if I have either of these. Can you tell me how I can find out and if I find them, how to disable them?
Thanks!

PS- I am just getting caught up on this thread. I am using Encore CS4 on an XP machine, SP3, Intel Core2 Duo, 2.99GHz, 3.25GB RAM. My Encore crashes whenever I try to burn a disc (mid-way through, so no discs burned), when I try to check the project, and immediately after I export a Flash SWF of the project (so at least I can get a test SWF).

Bobby,
You should see them in the nVidia console, or by going to Start>Run and typing MSCONFIG, and looking in Startup.
Now, reports are coming in that the latest nVidia driver has both of these modules rewritten, and now they work with Adobe programs. I cannot attest to this, as my nVidia cards are other models, and I do not have either module. I cannot even test, and can only rely on the reports of others.
Good luck,
Hunt

Thanks, Hunt. I will explore the drivers update. My IS guys are going to look at changing my video card to an ATI card. Not sure if that will help, but gotta try something. I tried the deleting of the dll file mentioned earlier, but that didn't seem to do the trick.
It's really hard to believe that a piece of major software could have such an apparently widespread issue with no clear fix from the company.
I'll post my results...

Update:
I looked for, but did not find, the files you cited in your previous post. My IT guys updated the NVIDIA drivers and I tried to burn a disc with Encore... crash again. Oh, and they also changed my status to administrator, which it was not previously.
Next step is that IT is ordering a new ATI card to replace the NVIDIA card. Who knows if that will work, but we'll give it a shot.
I'm also fortunate to have another machine with CS4 on it that I can try, so once I copy over all my project files, that's where I'm headed.
Thanks.

Another update...
After trying out my Encore project on 3 different machines and having all of them crash, I decided to go back to square one. I went back to my own machine and created a new project from scratch, going just so far as to have a single menu and a single video to play from it.
Previously, Encore crashed on me in 3 specific instances: a- when I tried to use 'check project', b- when I tried to burn a disc, and c- after I exported to Flash (which at least allowed me to see a working version of my project). Trying each of these in my new project... NO CRASHES.
I then proceeded to build my project, adding the various submenus and videos needed. I am now at a point where the project is pretty much complete, and still NO CRASHES. I have burned several test discs, exported new Flash versions, and checked the project with no problems.
So I am left to assume that my original issue was not necessarily a video card problem (although I did update the drivers before going to other machines, to no avail), but rather something peculiar in my original project that was causing the crashes.
The kicker here, and the reason I can't compare this project to previous projects, is that this is my very first Encore project. So a happy ending, for now anyway.
Now if I could just figure out how to change the color on a text subpicture highlight!
Cheers

Happy endings are good!
Sometimes, Projects just get smurfed. Sometimes, we can retrace our steps and see what went wrong. Sometimes, we never find out what it was.

I think that this one was much easier. Check out my reply in that thread, and let me know if it works. It was a very good idea to post separately, as this is now a very old, and long thread, with all sorts of tangents. Your new post will also help others, and they can easily find it by the title - job well done!
If you have any questions on the Color Set option, please ask in that thread, and we'll do our best to get you the necessary info.
Good luck,
Hunt

Maybe something in this ARTICLE will be of use.
With a BSOD and reboot, especially during Burn, Transcode or Export, I usually first think of:
1.) Overheating
2.) Power supply issues
3.) RAM issues
4.) MoBo issues
Good luck,
Hunt
