Encore CS4 freezing with Windows 7

New Here ,
Jun 07, 2009 Jun 07, 2009

I have recently installed Production Premium CS4 on my new machine and have NO issues what so ever with any of the programmes accept for one... you guessed it Encore. I've had trouble over the year with all of my Encore versions but have always managed to get the running stable. My current version is installed and working on a Dell duel Xeon 3.2 machine running XP with no issues.

The Issue:

Fortunatly I can replicated it every time. Load Encore, open a Blu-Ray project and click on "Help" - "System Info..." bang computer locks up and a 7 sec reboot is required. System status = No other programmes running, Encore fully updated, Windows & fully update. It will also freeze if I import footage create a menu and click built project.

My System

I7 Intel 2.66

12Gb RAM

Windows 7
120Gb SSD Drive running C/ Windows and D/Apps.

Storage 3x 1TB drives

I have tried running installing it on a standard 7000rpm drive too but same issue.

Any ideas?

Installed master suite on a recently purchased, high end computer running win7. At first was able to use Encore a couple of times successfully. Now it hangs up on start up saying initializing transcoding. I have downloaded the new Roxio driver and turned off sleep mode but still no luck!  Ive been using Encore since the first beta came out and have always had problem after problem. What am I missing here?

Thanks-

Jeff,

I just saw that you have added the Roxio-fix to the FAQ's. Was going to suggest that, but you beat me to the punch and by 11 days!

Way to go.

Thanks, Bill.  I figured it was about time to do that when I got tired of posting/explaining the fix.

Yes, about the time that I find myself typing the same stuff for the third time, off I go to the Tips & Tricks (or maybe Muvipix) sub-forum and do an Article to link to.

Having this in the FAQ is so much easier than telling a poster to Search for Jeff Bellune and Roxio.

Thanks,

Hunt

Lol. you really should have consulted me. With problems with 7. Roxio PX Engine is what Encore CS3 needs to to work under 7.

and seems to me CS4 is the same. Not sure about Encore CS5 - you cannot run it in trial mode?

Hello

Much of the troubles caused by Encore CS4 can be solved simply deleting the subfolder "4.0" in C:\users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Encore, where XXXXXX is your computer username. You should close all Adobe apps before deleting any Adobe system folder.

This must be done AFTER upgrading Roxio driver.

After the deletion, in the next boot, Encore will recriate this folder with correct parameters.

Thank You!

I've been trying for two days to get Encore up and running on Windows 7. I would never have thought to go to Roxio for anything, but this update was exactly what was needed. I've been testing the Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) 64 bit since the second day it was available. Yesterday was the first time I tried to open an Encore project. It froze on the splash screen at "Initializing Transcoding" and locked up the machine every time. I uninstalled, reinstalled, reinstalled the updates, tried the compatability modes, checked to make sure I had the latest Nvidia driver, turned off any startup programs that I didn't need, etc. Fortunately, Windows 7 reboots really fast... less than a minute from reset to desktop. Encore is the only program I've had any issues with sofar. I've logged a lot of hours in Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere with no crashes or hangs. This may be pre-release OS software, but it seems to be more stable than the release versions of Vista or XP were. By the way, if you're planning to deploy Windows 7 yourself, you can preorder the upgrade at Newegg ($50 for Home Premium - limit of 3 and $100 for Ultimate - limit of 1) for October delivery "while supplies last." It will cost a lot more if you wait and they don't charge your card until they ship the program.

Thanks again for the help

Torkel

Thanks for the reply, it was a very useful link indeed. It's the first place I've seen where someone is looking to resolve the issue.

I know about the Pix Engine update and have updated. My machine still freezes when you go to System information at the top.

This problem is restricted to Windows 7 64 bit only as it would appear.

Cheers,

Dave

Most of the previous posts are using pre-release versions of Windows 7. I am using final retail Win 7 Pro and the problem is still there, so this confirms it is an Adobe problem. In my case, the machine hung at 98% when importing assets. The Pix Engine update resolved it but like Daveydoobs it hangs when going to System Information.

I have the solution in the same OS:

Lo único que tienes que hacer es convertir todos tus audios a la extensión .ac3 para que no transcodifique, y todos los videos llevarlos sin compresión, de esta forma el Encore no se congelará y podras trabajar casi normalmente.

I'm afraid the suggested solutions didn't work for me. I'm definitely planning on upgrading to CS 5.5 and I can only hope with all the apps 64 bit everything will work better (ha). It's annoying that there is no trial for Encore. Encore CS4 works just fine in my older Windows XP system with a slower processor and less memory. It makes no sense to me.

I can actually work with Encore CS4 on my Windows 7 system, but with some crazy workarounds. The bottom line is to not have any open timelines in the project or Encore freezes and/or crashes. I have to set my chapter points in Premiere and transcode before importing to Encore. Then, after importing the transcoded video (BTW, the video will appear corrupt in the preview, but it really isn't), I need to save the project, close and reopen Encore.  Then after creating a timeline, I need to close the timeline, save the project, close and reopen Encore again. If I close Encore with an open timeline, that project will never open again. Once I get back in, the remaining parts of the authoring process run smoothly - so long as you don't open and attempt to view a timeline!

Arrrrgh!

>CS 5.5 and I can only hope with all the apps 64

Please provide a link to where Adobe says Encore will be 64bit, since I seem to have missed that bit of news

Since Encore licenses the "burning core modules" from Roxio, Roxio must produce 64bit modules before Encore may go 64bit

I am more creatively oriented than IT oriented and learn things as I go, so thanks for educating me. Let's wait and see. But can anyone pinpoint why an open timeline is the specific cause of my problem and where I should be looking for the solution?

Wow, how did I not find this post a year ago. I've been a part of the crazy workaround gang for awhile.

Registered just to say it worked.
