export MOGRTs in AE (1min) premiere (30 min and longer)

Community Beginner ,
Jan 11, 2023 Jan 11, 2023

I'm trying to export a MOGRT. In after effects the project is rendered in 65 sec. In premiere the rendering takes about 40 min or longer (first attempts where 2 hours and they where not done.)

Premiere 22.6.3

After effects 22.6

Media Encoder 22.6.3

Windows 10

i7-8700 Processor

nvidIA GeForce GTX 1080

Hey Gijs,

Welcome to the community, and sorry for the issue. Multi Frame Rendering in Premiere Pro for motion graphics templates created in After Effects is a recent feature launched with Premiere Pro 23.0 (Feature summary). You might see the performance difference because After Effects 22.6 supports multi-frame rendering, whereas Premiere Pro 22.6.3 does not. I suggest updating Premiere Pro and After Effects to the most recent version. Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Ishan

The project that I am working on is fine when i used it in 2021. I needed some changes in the Mogrt and i accidently change to 2022. I already tried to go to 2023 but that didn't make a difference...

Could you try creating a new project and Premiere Pro 23.1 and After Effects 23.1? Let us know if you're still experiencing delays in exporting.

I tried, no differnce...

You can see it at the pictures, the first seconds it's rendering and then it's just almost stops.

Also, before the render starting, I erased my cashes.

I exported the AE file 1 min or so then in premiere also 1 min. But when I do it with the mogrt it's almost 30 min to export. Any advice how to get this MOGRT'S render faster?

Hi, Gijs5CF0,

Sorry about that. Some .mogrts might be older and non-performant. Which .mogrt are you referring to? Is this one that you made? That would help the team troubleshoot the issue. Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin!

It's one i made myself with some parts from other projects from other people. I can not upload the .mogrt or as a zip here. How can I send it to you?

greetings

Gijs

Hi Gijs,

You can upload to Creative Cloud, DropBox, or Google Drive. Then PM me the link.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @Gijs5CF0,

That sounds really frustrating. I'd like to help get to the bottom of things.

A couple of things to untangle first:
The Mogrt you shared with Kevin is using Cinema 4D which makes it a Dynamic Link Mogrt and not an AELib Mogrt. This means that the rendering of the Mogrt is done via Cinema 4D Lite and After Effects itself.

An AELib Mogrt is rendered within Premiere by a Tiny Inception Version of AE that is installed with Premiere. 99% of the time, being able to use an AELib instead of a Dynamic Link Mogrt will improve performance.

  • Do the parameters that require Cinema 4D need to be edited in Premiere?
  • Is it possible for you to PreRender those parts of your design and re-import them as footage in your After Effects Project and then re-export the Mogrt so that it can be an AELib Mogrt?
    • If this is an option, make sure to change the 3D renderer back to Classic 3D for the Primary Comp and all nested Comps.
    •  3D Classic Renderer.png

If that's not an option, then let's get some comparable tests nailed down.

Exporting one .ae project out of AE (essentially one Mogrt) is not the same thing as exporting a timeline full of footage plus 10+ Cinema 4D Mogrts in Premiere. It's not the same test so we can't compare results in that way.

Tests that would give us information:

  • How long does it take to export one instance of the C4D Mogrt from the timeline in Premiere with nothing else in the sequence? (this is the straight comparison of exporting the .aep out of After Effects)
  • How long does it take to export the full sequence you shared in the video from AME?

C4D:

Maxon now requires users to install C4D Lite which comes free with After Effects via the Creative Cloud Desktop App

  • Do you need to update Cinema 4D?
  • This is a new workflow that was introduced in 23.x so maybe there is something outdated and slowing things down in this camp

You mentioned that the full sequence exported faster out of 2021.

  •  Is it possible to re-install that version and let me know how long that export takes?
  • What version number specifically were you using?

2021 and 2023 can be installed at the same time on the system, but you'll need a version of the project that can be opened in 2021.

Logs:

Lastly, the logs I asked you to gather were for AELib Mogrts so they aren't helpful in this situation unfortunately. I'm sorry I didn't know the Slowgrt in question was a C4D varietal. 😞
Trying to track down the way to log this correctly and will report back as soon as I get something solid.

Hope to hear some good news from you soon too!

Thanks so much for your patience,

Dacia

oh!

I should have asked: @Gijs5CF0

Also what would help us try and repro the issue in-house is the full Premiere project that you are using in the video you shared with us... the one with the Mogrts + Footage + Audio.
Please DM me if you don't want to share on this forum.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks! Its working! In Media encoder it's very smooth to render. In premiere I can not preview it smooth. But that's no problem for me . 🙂

Thanks!
