Finding original footage

New Here ,
Oct 12, 2024 Oct 12, 2024

I've have a long finished video that was not edited in Premier Pro that I've put into my timeline.

I don't have the original EDL but I have all the original raw footage.

I want to recreate this video using the original raw footage.

Is there a plug in or some method to quickly search the raw footage to find each scene?

Match frame won't work, because the sequence was not originally built in Premier Pro, so the sequence doen't reference orginal clips.

If you can identify the shot in the original footage using the audio from the shot, you could use a combination of scene edit detection and multi-camera sync to find the original footage.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Select your original footage in the timeline and go to Clip > Scene Edit Detection.
  2. In the Scene Edit Detection window, tick Create bin of subclips from each detected cut point.
  3. In the Project panel, select both the subclips and your original footage, then choose Clip > Create Multi-ca

  4. For Synchronize Point, set Audio Track Channel to Mixdown.
  5. This will create multi-camera source sequences in your Project panel, which you can open in the timeline by right-clicking and choosing Open in Timeline.

Recreating a video using original raw footage without an EDL can be a bit tricky, but there are some methods that can help speed up the process, even without direct references to the original clips.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct plugin in Premiere Pro that can automatically match raw footage to an edited sequence from a different program. However, here are some options you can explore:

  1. Scene Detection in Premiere Pro: You can use Premiere Pro’s Scene Edit Detection feature to identify cuts within your finished video. This can break the video down into separate clips, which will give you a good visual guide to help manually match it to your raw footage. It won't automatically link to the raw footage, but it’s a good starting point for recreating the timeline.

    • Right-click the video in your timeline and select Scene Edit Detection. Premiere Pro will analyze the clip and add cuts at each edit point.
  2. Manual Match Frame Workflow: Even though Match Frame won’t work in the traditional sense, you can manually use it on each raw clip in the project window. By visually comparing the raw footage to the original video, you can locate the correct scenes. It’s time-consuming but can be effective with careful attention.

While there’s no fully automated solution for this specific situation, these methods should help you get closer to rebuilding your original timeline. Let me know if you need more guidance on any of these steps!

Best of luck with the project!
