Growing file only refreshes when opening another application

New Here ,

(Using a Macbook Pro M1 w/ Premiere Pro and recording via hyperdeck shuttle HD + Network storage)

As I'm attempting to use a new system to speed up my workflow as a broadcast editor, I am trying to find a good system to be able to edit growing files. With all my settings correct (including the refresh rate of growing files) My files only grow on Premiere Pro when I click on my finder, then back onto Premiere Pro. The timeline cannot be dragged to the most up to date version of the file without having to do this. I have changed my file format and codec and the I still have the same problem. Finder can see the up to date version but Adobe needs to be clicked off of and back on to enable the file size to grow.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi there!

Thanks for writing in. Which version of Premiere Pro are you using? Could you try moving growing files to local drive? Also, which format and codec are you using?

Let us know.

Thanks,

KR

No idea but the same issue.

@Kartika Rawat : here are our specs:

  • PremierePro 24.6.3 (same in 25.1)
  • Mac Studio M2-Chip, Sonoma 14.7
  • Server mounted with SMB (mounted with AFP don't stop growing files but has other issues)
  • File-Format XDCam HD50 Pal

Premiere suddenly shows Growing files as not growing. Switching to Finder for a few seconds sets the files to growing in Premiere again.

Update:

Our workaround for working with growing files is now as follow:

We disable "Automaticly refresh growing files" in the media-preferences. So Premiere won't show the growing as completed anymore. Of course the files will not change their duration anymore.

For refreshing and updating the growing files we are using Growth Accelartor-Plug In from MoovIT. Not sure what is the difference between refreshing automaticly with Premiere an using the Plug In.

For us it works but should of course not be the final solution. @Kartika Rawat you may have a look at the MoovIT-Plug IN an as a feature request: a shortcut for refreshing media manually would be nice.
