With the new update of Premiere Pro (version 23.4) horizontal scroll on the timeline hardly works at all. When I use a two finger swipe on my trackpad to move the timeline left or right, it normally moves very smoothly and moves long distances quickly. But in version 23.4 it hardly moves, and I have to push down hard on the trackpad and do really long swipes to initiate a (weak) scroll.
I ended up reinstalling version 23.3, and horizontal scroll on the timeline now works perfectly again.
I hope this will be fixed with future updates so I can always have the latest version.
Mod note: Title changed slightly
Hello,
This issue is fixed in Premiere Pro v23.5, which will be available the week of June 17.
Regards,
Fergus

Hey everyone,
The engineering team has released a fix for a similar issue in the latest Beta. Could you try the Beta and let us know if that fixes your problem? Installing the Beta won't overwrite your current version of Premiere Pro. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Ishan

@Antonio Wimmer M Did you experienced this Beta to be stable so far? I intent to also use it, but before starting a new project on it I am curious if it's stable.

No dude, I use Premiere profesionally so I can't risk to use a Beta software unfortunately. I just downloaded to test what Ishan Y suggested and the problem was fixed indeed. I used the beta for like 10 minutes and checked out some of the new feautres that looked cool! But no, I have not used the BETA and can't reccomend it. I wouldn't personally risk it for pro work. Sorry!

I understand your hesitation to use the beta, but it has saved my life once or twice. You should be able to revert to another version of Premiere 23 and still open a project saved in the beta... and I don't think Ishan or any other adobe employee would recommend using the beta if they felt there would be issues. I keep my autosave interval to 5 minutes so if I have a crash, I can never lose that much work. Frankly, I hate trackpads so I always have a mouse with me if I'm working with a laptop.

Sorry! Since it's fixed in Beta, it should be fixed in an upcoming version of Premiere Pro. Sorry for the hassle!
Thanks,
Kevin

Before this version, it was super smooth navigating on timeline with two fingers on my macbook trackpad. Now, it seems I can only navigate with acceleration (releasing my finger at the end and scrolling a long distance, and even this is laggy) instead of precisely scroll from one point to another. Sometimes it does not work at all, scroll bar not moving at all even though my fingers are.
Also, I have the same problem with Effects panel, Lumetri Color panel and I believe there's more, but it seems on Project panel it still works perfectly as before.
Please fix it as soon as possible. Thanks a lot!

I have just re-entered a project on the latest version of Premiere Pro on a Windows 11 laptop.
I can't scroll along the timeline using the trackpad, or, holding the alt key, I can't zoom in and out of the timeline.
It works fine on the program monitor and the source monitor, but not on the timeline. I am also able to expand each channel size by using two fingers on the trackpad and pulling the opposing corners into the center. However, scrolling and zooming still does not work.
I have tried this on different projects, new projects and timelines with different footage and it is still the case. There are no issues with the laptop trackpad as functions fine on other Adobe programs.

Hi,
I read your message and I'm concerned about this unexpected behavior. A similar issue is being investigated by the team right now, so I'll move your post into the bug reports forum. That way, the team can interact with your post and help you out with any answers there. The Discussion board is a user-to-user forum, so that will escalate your case. I hope that is OK.
Thanks,
Kevin
