How do I continuously show a still on the timeline?

When I paste a still image on the timeline, I assumed that I could change its duration by extending it.

But when I try to do that, I get a "trim media limit reached" error. Which I guess makes some kind of sense since it's a still.

But what's the procedure for displaying one image for x frames?

Extending an image also depends on what else is on the timeline.

Here's the timeline. When I said 'still' I actually meant that I chopped off a frame from V1 (which is in fact a lot of stills imported as an animated sequence) and pasted it onto V2.

And that still/frame on V2 is the one I want to extend..

A single frame video can't can be extended. (EDITED: See the reply byAnn Bens.)

Just copy and paste as needed.

An alternative is to do a frame grab and save as tif.  Then you can extend it.

What if I need to move a still across the screen, for instance?

EDIT: I didn't see your tif-comment -- if I can extend tif's that's great!

A single frame can be extended!

Grab the stretch tool and stretch.

Or right click > speed/duration > change duration.

Can I ask how you use the (rate-, I assume) Stretch tool on single frames?

When I select the tool, place it at the right end of the frame (which is one of a series of animated .png's) and drag it to the right, nothing happens except there's a temporary white field/region where you'd expect the stretched clip to appear, but that disappears again and it doesn't contain any images.

I'm asking because TIF works perfectly, but I have a lot of images in other formats and I'd appreciate not having to convert them if I don't have to...

My issue here is probably due to .png's. But now I know it can be done with other formats, so that's great.

png is a still, those can be extended to 12 hours.

If multiple PNG's are made into an image sequence it also can be extended as show above.

This is really peculiar -- this is what I do:

1) I cut out one frame from my sequence

2) Select it

3) Place the stretch tool at the end of it

4) Click and drag

5) The white empty field in the screenshot appears. It doesn't have any content in it.

Now I get it: The reason it didn't work for me is that I didn't zoom in close enough on the timeline.

So I only grabbed the edge of the frame, which doesn't work.

But now I zoomed in so close that I could place the stretch tool inside the frame -- inspired by your screenshot -- and that worked!

So thank you again, this makes it all so much easier!
