Been trying to sort this issue for awhile and I can't
Gopro footage seems to be perfectly fine in premier pro.
4k footage from rx100 v stutters badly when trying to skip through the footage (drag the video time line)
This causes issues because I can't easily preview footage, I have to sit there and watch it. Even in the small thumbernail I can't move the mouse to preview the footage.
i7 5820k 3.3
32 gb ram
msi x99a
gtx 1060 6gb
tried it on my 850 evo and also normal disc
Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
I would like to suggest that you add one of the new faster M.2 PCIe x4 SSD's for your project files and media. You could get by with a standard SATA III SSD it will get you off those lousy hard disk drives with their millisecond access times (SSD's have microsecond access times) and the hard disk drives lousy slow down as the drives fill up. Also is anything stopping you from reinstalling that GTX 1060?
Your new scores are good but since I have no problem on my laptop editing XAVC-S 100 Mbit/se

What recording mode did you set in the RX100 V?
Here is the MediaInfo Tree view of my XAVC-S which works beautifully in Premiere, what does yours look like?

Hi, looking at the image below it doesn't look too different from yours?
Unless you can spot something I can't
Thanks

I recommend using Cineform proxies for all H.264 media.

Thanks Jim, but XAVC-S which is a 4K mode on that Sony RX100 V camera is not H.264 as you see from my MediaInfo.

AVC (Advanced Video Codec) is H.264, Bill. Different name, same thing.

Thank you Jim for updating me.
Why is it that I have never needed to resort to proxies on this simple laptop with my 100 Mbits/second XAVC-S?

Most likely, what you're doing isn't overstressing the system. Different workflows, different effects, different edits...all could make proxies a viable option.

I've recorded my screen to show you guys whats happening but for some reason I can't send you the link in PM.

Well download my Premiere Pro BenchMark (PPBM). It tests you hardware running Premiere Pro to tell us how well it is tuned. Submit the reults and the Speccy snapshot.

I did this the other day but when I clicked on the file to get the results afterwards I got an error. I will try again when I'm back at my pc.
Thanks

The script cannot find your exported files. Either move the correct Statistics xxx.vbs file to the export location or CUT (do not copy) and paste the 4 exported files to the project folder where the Statistics xxx.vbs file location.

Maybe try to play back the footage 1/2 or even 1/4 resolution for now

I've been running the source window at 1/8 and getting the issues.

I've changed back to my old graphic cards which are 2 x 7950. I had to disable crossfire because the final test would not run with it enabled.
I also ran this test from my mechanical disk and not ssd.
I guess I can safely say its not the graphics cards causing the issue as I've had a gtx 1060 and then these installed at different times.
The results are:
1) disk i/o time = 172908 which is 0.21 MB/second
2) encode h.264 = 118 seconds
3) mpe gain 421/172659=0
Can someone tell me what these mean?
Thanks

If you ran every thing according to the instructions you have a mess hardware wise, if you had followed directions and submitted them according to directions I would have better information a screen grab of Speccy is not "Saving a Snapshot"

Your Disk I/O test vs the worst ever recorded 0.21 MB/second for the write rate there is no way that is correct. I am guessing that you copied and pasted those two 172000 numbers indicate that. You cannot do that but you can CUT and paste without changing the file time stamps.
Your MPEG2-DVD timeline export with CPU only of 421 seconds is not bad on my PPBM/CPU web page you can see a score of 398 seconds.
Your export of the H.264 timeline with GPU acceleration of 118 seconds, but with your GTX 1060 operating properly would be appreciable faster surely less that 100 seconds.

I did upload the speccu and output to the website. It said it would process them as 'humanly possible'
I am going to re-run the test again.

Right ok.
I run the test again, correctly this time, and got different results. I've submitted them to the website but will list them here too.
1. Disk i/o time = 217 seconds. Disk write rate is 170.93
2. Encode time = 97 seconds
3. MPE gain of 419/31=13.5

Recorded the screen other day to see if it helped.
By the way, I appreciate your help.
Thanks

Your new scores are good but since I have no problem on my laptop editing XAVC-S 100 Mbit/second media on my slower, 4-core laptop which has two good SATA III SSD"s I think you should make an upgrade to a second SSD and while you are at it go for the higher performance M.2 PCIe x4 like a Samsung 960 EVO of a size to handle your larger projects. When you finish a project move the old projects to your harddisk drives and make room for the new one.
Another idea that I use is to get a portable SSD USB3.1 drive and plug it into one of your USB 3.1 ports and have your projects and media on it (here is my Samsung T5 500 GB). I can use this on my laptop to do my initial editing and then unplug it and almost instantly finish editing on my desktop. They are available up to 2 TB if you really have large projects
What is important for video editing are those Sequential transfer rates.
My desktop did not have a USB 3.1 interface.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I transferred my media to the SSD and I let premier pro locate the files and I was still receiving the same problem. Was this the correct procedure to do or would I need to re import the files. I have done the disk crystal disk mark, Is my SSD really too slow to handle my media? Do you have your lapto 2x ssd set in raid?
I was testing my friends gtx 1060 with an option to buy it but because it didn't solve the problem I decided the money would be better spent on something that would fix it.
Appreciate your time!

Guess what CrystalDisk Market did it to me with that new version They removed the true sequential category. But you can still use the Seq Q32T1 on the new version to check SSD performance. But using it in any mechanical rotating disk drive it is misleading because they are only testing the fastest part of the disk drive. Here is a real test of the a hard disk drive showing the siginificant slow dwon as the disk fills up.

1.. No your SSD is not to slow but you really need a minimum of two SSD's One for your OS/Applications and one for all your project files and media if they are SATA III SSD's. Forget about hard disk drives execpt for backup and archiving.
2. Absolutely no RAID

So I installed a Samsung sm961 m.2 drive. I would say there is around a 50% improvement. Its till not smooth and still little jerky but better than it was before and I think I'll be able to edit. Those rx100 files must be a lot more stressing than the gopro files. I re-run the tests and uploaded them to the website.
Thoughts?

I noticed my encode time has increased from 97 to 122. Not sure why this is. I have taken the second graphic card out of my computer but I had cross fire turned off when I received the 97 second result.

Well that is the H.264 timeline that is exported with GPU Acceleration so it is very logical that export would take longer when going from 2 GPU's to 1 GPU. Cross fire is immaterial to GPU acceleration and actually may interfere with operation.

I didn't know you could run two GPU with out a crossfire link. I assumed you needed the link to run it both. Premier pro actually has problems when I run both my cards.
I have found a buyer for my two HD 7950 cards (crypto miner) and I was going to get a 1060 6gb or stretch my budget to a 1070.
I noticed in another thread you run two 1060's and get great performance.
Is this easy to do? do you run into other problems?
