Issue Norwegian Transcription – Generating text-based editing makes Norwegian interview to English

Hi,

I’m experiencing an issue when transcribing Norwegian speech into Norwegian text in Premiere Pro. Here’s exactly what happens:

1.I click “Transcribe” and select Norwegian as the language.

2. After that, I choose “Generate Text-Based Transcript.”

3.Then, it says "Your new transcript will update as you edit you sequence (...)". I click continue, however, this time I don’t get the option to select Norwegian.

4.Instead, Premiere automatically starts transcribing the Norwegian interview into English text (without translating), which results in a mess of random English words that don’t make any sense. This makes it impossible to edit using the text-based editing feature.

Is there a way to fix this?

Are you transcribing a sequence or source clips? Sounds like you're transcribing a sequence. You should transcribe the source clips.

@tosss,

You cannot delete a transcription. But will see "re-transcribe." Just do that.

I think your problem was that you started a transcription and changed the language there, but that does not change the default language. When you started over, you got to the Preferences -> Transcription -> default language option.

The most likely way you got to the "Generate a text-based editing transcript" is by having a static transcription of a sequence. Then, when you look at the 3 dot menu in the Text panel/Transcript tab, that is what you see.

This worked after:

1. Creating a new project/starting all over

2. Changing Transcription Deafult Language in settings to Norwegian

Thanks! But clunky that I had to start from scratch. Anyone know if theres a way to "undo" or delete source clips/sequence transcription? To re-do it.

I´m from Sweden, but we are neighbours with Norway, so pretty close! 🙂

The very few times i have tested to transcribe in Pr i noticed that it did not work so good. It was some time ago and i don´t know if there has been any update.
