HI Guys
Today i noticed that Premiere is saving media cache files to my C drive Drive C:\Users\shoot\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files
And not to my dedicated Media Cache drive. E:\MEDIA CACHE
No matter how many times i state to save in the E drive, the C drive folder keeps filling up.
I'm on premiere 24.4.1 on windows 11.

What size is the E drive, and how much free space is there?

It's a 1TB internal NVMe drive. It's currently at 245GB.

And is E an internal drive, or external via USB/Thunderbolt?

You only need one post with the same answer. I don't know for sure, as I set all my Project or Production settings to an "S" drive, and then to let the c: drive do some work, I leave the cache settings alone.
I would try two things. One is take out the space in the "Media Cache" folder name. The second, I would try just directing them to the root of your "E" drive, as I have on my settings in the screenshot.

I notice from the screen dump that the Media Cache Files goes to E:\MEDIA CACHE while Media Cahce Database goes to E:\MEDIA CACHE\
That should not cause the issue, but i would start with to change the Media Cache Database location to E:\MEDIA CACHE instead of E:\MEDIA CACHE\ . If it still behaves the same i would delete the Preferences for Premiere Pro by pressing the Shift-key while launching Premiere Pro. Check the "Reset app preferences" in the dialog that pops up and click Continue.
When you reset the Preferences the Media Cache Files/Media Cache Database will still be set to the folder you choosed since Media Encoder and After Effects share this setting.
Did it make any difference at all?

Sadly no this didn't work. On c drive it's saving to Media cache files folder.

Even if the Pref has been set to a different drive there always be cache files on C (appdate etc) but they are very small files.
Check your E drive for files. There should be 6 folders, most of them filled with files.

Now i see the same thing as well, i my case in C:\Users\Roger\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files. I was not aware of that Premiere Pro place files there as well. I had only .ims-files there. I deleted everything and opened a large project and got 1846 new .ims-files with a total of 5.9 MB.
All my other Media Cache Files were place in my dedicated foler: D:\Adobe System Files\Media Cache Files (1108 files @ 50 MB.)
Ann Bens confirms it and it seems like this is something we have to live with.

Like a LOT of users, my C Nvme drive has "limited" space, and I do NOT want any cache files there when I have plenty of space on my D Nvme drive. Grrr......
@mattchristensen ... what sayest thou? Are we stuck with this or is this unintended behavior?

@R Neil Haugen Yes, those very small .ims files need to be on the boot drive.

Ah well ... they just build over time however.

Annoying isnt it. Can I ask how you've set up your cache? I've always just created a folder in my E drive called Media Cache, and ive just chosen that folder and adobe seems to fill it with folders. Do you do the same or do you create different folders for say Media cache and media cache files/database?
