so this is probably a rookie mistake but why when i import my video is only half of it showing on screen as in i can only see half of what should be showing and yes i do have it set to fit so please help im very confused
I am guessing as its mpg footage OP is dealing with this issue:
Solution was to use CS6 but that is no longer available.
Other option is transcoding with Handbrake.

Do your output specs match your sequence settings? In other words, are you editing at one size (like HD) and then exporting to a different size?

Yes! That's exactly what I needed, you did great.
Now here's a few things I notice:
Now, let's back up. What are you trying to output? Is this for broadcast, the web, a high-res master file? Tell me what your end goal is and I'll walk you through the steps to get there.

NP.
How are you bringing the clips into Premiere? Are you just using the Import command? It should not be cutting off the footage like that.
If you are just using Import, try using the Media Browser window. Navigate to your footage folder in the sidebar, select your clip and right-click to Import. It's a different method for importing and the preferred way to bring in raw footage from cameras.

i am opening the file folder and dragging them from the folder window to the premier window.

Okay, try using the Media Browser tab. Navigate to your footage folder inside there and right-click to Import. Do not drag and drop.

Would you be able to post a short clip online? Or else I could DM you an email address and you could use WeTransfer or Dropbox to send me a file. I feel like I need to get my hands on one of these problem clips to see if I can replicate the issue.

Aha! Good catch Ann. I didn't know this was a thing, but the OP is clearly using an older camera so it makes sense. I'm assuming AME would also crop the footage, so a third-party encoder is the best solution?

how would i do that exactly?

Thanks for sending me the video clip. I saw the same behavior on my end, so I think @AnnBens called it – there is a conflict with the MPG footage from that camera and Premiere Pro. The only solution I can see is to transcode the footage –– meaning that you convert it to another format before you import it into Premiere.
I don't know if you have the permission to download software onto that school computer, but you'll need additional software to make this work. Here's the link:
Once you download this, I load the preset I'm attaching here (I already tested it on your footage). Import your clip, apply the preset, then run the software. You can batch them if you have several clips.
