Most, but not all clips are freezing in playback of a sequence

Explorer ,
Jul 30, 2025 Jul 30, 2025

Hi, I'm pretty new with Premier, hopefully I can explain this well enough. Also attached a clip so you can see it for yourself.

I've made a couple videos before without this issue. One this one project I'm working on all of a sudden my clips are freezing on playback. This is from the timeline, not after an export. I haven't tried exporting it yet because it's not done.

But the first two clips in the sequence will play, the rest all freeze on the first frame. Each clip is about 5 seconds (it's a drone montage), and in playback you'll just get five seconds of the first frame before it moves to the next clip, you'll get five seconds of it's first frame, and so on and so on. No transitisions have been added between the clips.

I've tried rendering, it does nothing. I've tried Googled suggestions of resetting my layout, that did nothing either. Clip is attached of my issue.

HELP. And thanks.

PROBLEM SOLVED.   The hard drive was just too full.  It was roughly 2/3rds full, which has never been enough to just lock up an editor for me before, but this time it was. Premier handled everything fine once I got down to about half full.

Here's the screen shot. I have a little bit of an update. After posting this I noticed I needed to run an update. I did, and that fixed it. But now the problem has somewhat returned. It's not as many shots, but it's a group of five or so at the end of the sequence.

@jamieclarke  10 minutes ago this clip worked. I applied a LUT, then removed it, and now it's frozen. The others I haven't applied a LUT to at all.Screenshot 2025-08-12 205249.png

What version of Premiere are you using?  Please post all of your computer specs from the link.

If you navigate to the menu > Sequence and select "Delete Render Files", does that help your issue?

@jamieclarke   The delete render files cannot be undone, so what happens to my project if I do that?

Everything else, I don't know what you said. Explain this like I'm five.  I clicked your link, it was asking to explain the problem and I've done all that.

Hi @RedBengal - The link asks for details about your system, the required information, and your Premiere Pro version this helps us gather the data we need to assist you. Deleting your render files will require re rendering, but it can help isolate issues caused by a corrupt render preview.

By @RedBengal

The render files will automatically be recreated.

If the original render files are corrupted, it may fix your problem.

I did the delete render files. It made it worse. Now almost every file is frozen other than a few. I guess I'll try that link you sent me and do that. This is honestly ridiculous for the money Adobe costs.

@jamieclarke   Ok, you're going to have to explain this to me like you are talking to a five year old. You told me to go to the How To Report A Problem and follow those instructions. It says to post it in the Bug section. This post is already in the Bug section. This feels like a circular conversation.

Tell me exactly what else you need to know. Don't send me somewhere else that tells me to come back here. I hate this, it is killing me with this project.

@jamieclarke  Following up. Just for the hell of it I tried to export the project to see if these freeze ups only occured within the Sequence. No, the exported finished video also has the same problem. This is infuriating.

Hi @RedBengal -

It looks like your Nvidia driver is quite out of date. Please visit the Nvidia Drivers page and use the Manual Search option to find the latest driver for your GPU.

For Premiere Pro, Adobe recommends installing the "Studio" Driver version.

@jamieclarke   I just completed all of that and the problem persists. I did notice when I went to the Device Manager to get my GPU info, it had two of them listed. Could this be related to the issue? Screenshot 2025-08-25 130246.png

Hi @RedBengal - Your system has an integrated GPU and a dedicated GPU (Nvidia).  What is the driver for your integrated GPU (Intel)

To isolate which one is causing the issue you can right click each gpu and disable them one at a time.

The other one is-   Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Grpahics, version 31.0.101.5081

It says the driver date is 12/9/2023, that's obviously old. I clicked to update the driver and it says it is using the best version of the driver for my system. I have a feeling that's wrong?

Let me try disabling one at a time and see how this goes.

@jamieclarke  Jamie I went through both, the problem is still there. I disabled Intel first, closed out of Premier, rebooted the computer, started it all up again and the problem was still there. I then enabled Intel, disabled NVIDIA, I closed out of Premier, did NOT reboot the computer that time and the problem was still there. I did not reboot the second time because restarting Premier seemed to get it to switch to the other GPU.

Where should I go from here? Thank you.
