Prefs & Settings - how thorough is CC's "Sync Settings"?

Haven't used CC's Sync Settings yet.  How thorough is it?

If you're switching frequently between work stations, each with a different account, and you want as many settings as possible from your account,  are there prefs /  settings that are included / excluded?

  • Project Settings
  • Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Workspaces
  • Sequence Presets
  • Timeline Presets
  • Metadata Display Presets
  • Overlay Settings
  • Effects Panel Presets

Others?

Hi ETorr,

The Sync Settings features give you the ability to upload settings files from your local computer to Creative Cloud and then download your settings from Creative Cloud to any other computer from within Premiere Pro.

The settings that can be synchronized in this way correspond to the entries in the Sync Settings category in the Preferences dialog box:

  • Preferences/Settings
  • Workspace Layouts
  • Keyboard Shortcuts

Do let us know with a feature request if there are other settings that you’d like to see synchronized.

Check this: Sync settings with Adobe Creative Cloud

Thanks,

Kulpreet Singh

Feature requests coming soon, but basically the feature request would be "all of the above" to the extent reasonable.

Having just finished a project where we volleyed from work station to work station, drive to drive, and project to project in various permutations and combinations, we ran into workflow bottlenecks because of challenges with settings transferability.

Shy of the Settings being fully syncable through CC, here's what a little digging revealed.

It was all prepped for Mac.  No PC systems available at the time.

You can use the blue "Mac Paths" (after replacing [**MacUser**] with your actual Mac User) to make those Finder > Command-G friendly to help locate and move settings more systematically.

Central Management for Preferences/Settings presets

How would you like the feature to work?

Ability to centrally name, edit and manage all PPro settings & Preferences

Currently settings like "Sequence Presets" can only be created at the time of sequencer creation.

They can't easily be renamed or modified after the fact.

Of course you can always jerry-rig a management workflow by creating a new sequence and jockying to name as many presets as you want, but it's roundabout and awkward.

Alternatively you could rename the preset files at the OS level, but that requires finding those files, renaming those files, and matching the name to an internal line of XML.  You can even, with a but of cunning, edit the preset settings themselves.  But all that is both cumbersome, slow, and prone to errors.

What would make sense would be centralized presets management center -- on top of the existing "create in place" presets features currently in PPro -- that allow editors to systematically and comprehensively manage all available PPro settings.

This would include not only the App Prefs, Workspaces, and Keyboard Shortcuts, but also Workspaces, Sequence Presets, Timeline Presets, Metadata Display Presets, Overlay Settings, Effects Panel Presets, Video & Audio FX Presets, Edit to Tape, Source Patching, and Customize Touch Bar, and no doubt a few more.

Why is this feature important to you?

Workflow efficiencies.
