Premiere Playback Problem (reverse playback)

New Here ,
May 23, 2022 May 23, 2022
Hi,

I'm having problem with playback. When I go through material, playback is smooth, but if I want to go to reverse playback (J on keyboard), playback is choppy and unwatchable. Before now I never had that problem 😞 (and it doesn't matter if I edit raw or proxy files).

Premiere that I'm using is 22.4.0 on MacBook Pro, M1 Max, 32GB RAM, 1Tb.

Thank you for all your ideas!

Best regards!

Jan

FYI. Ive been playing around with Premiere Pro (Beta) v23.6. It looks like the issue is finally resolved. I suppose it will hit final release in two updates being the current official release is v23.4. In (Beta) v23.5 the problem still exists. But looks like there is hope for v23.6 & forward.

I'm now only working on the audio part, using WAV. files that was recorded on a Zoom H6. Some are playing when reversed but not all. I've tried changing tracks, creating a new sequence and restarting Pr and the iMac itself, nothing works.

Hi @Eilib,

Thanks for the message. You say that some of your .wav files are playing in reverse. Strange! Can you please provide more details about your computer system? Is it similar to the OPs? Do you have any sample files you can share that are exhibiting the same behavior? That would be so helpful. Sorry for the frustration. Hope we can assist.

Thank You,

Kevin

Thank you for answering. No they are NOT playing when I try to play them in reverse. I want them to be reversed (and play).
I use an iMac Studio with Ventura 13.5 and Premiere 23.6.  I can't see why it's not working, and I've never experienced anything like that before. Do you want me to share a clip? Like I said some of the clips are playing when reversed, others aren't, and it seems to be random which ones that are. When set back to normal (not reversed) they work again every time. I hope you can help me out.

Hi @Eilib,

If the problem is kind of random like that, you might try copy/pasting into a new sequence to see if that might help. Sometimes sequences can get corrupted and throw unexpected behavior. You can also try a sequence in a new project. Feel free to share a sample file so that we can inspect the media in our own test project. I hope the advice helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thankyou! I have tried making a new sequence, but not a new project. I'll try that! Thank you so much 🙂

Press Shift at launch and delete media cache from Reset Options. That can also help.
