Premiere Pro 13.1.2 freezes, then crashes my computer.

Hey Adobe forum,

I've had this issue for a couple of weeks now.

While editing in a Premiere project, all of a sudden the computer freezes and shots down – then restarts. I don't know why it happens or when. I can work 3 hours without crashing. Other days it happens after 20 minutes – there is no system. It just happens randomly during the day. Multiple times.

I'm working on an iMac Pro. 3,2 GHz Intel Xeon W – 32 GB RAM – Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB

I've been using Premiere for three years and never had this problem before. I've also been in contact with Adobe Live chat – they told me to change the render engine in "Project Settings" – it worked for a couple of days, but now it crashes again.

Anyone experience the same problem?

Try resetting the preferences:

FAQ: How to reset preferences in Premiere Pro?

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:

Reset a workspace

Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
    • Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

from here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn’t work ,try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.

Also, check to make sure that all fans are working and that it is not an overheating issue.

Hey Peru Bob,

Thank you for helping. Unfortunately I've already tried resetting my prefs and workspace. I'm working on a Mac so I assume that updating my graphics driver = being up-to-date on the latest operating system.

I will go check my fans.

I downgraded to version 12.1.2 and it was running smoothly, but after a couple of days it started crashing again. So I'm still facing this issue.

Likewise, thanks for the response I've reinstalled Premiere and unfortunately started a docuseries on 2019 so I can not or do not want to have to go to back to 2018. everytime I never learn I always try to use the latest and greatest software when its quite often not.
