Hi there
I am hoping someone can help before I pick up my laptop and launch it into the nearest river.
Currently, I've been learning more about Premiere Pro to produce better content. One of the things I've been wanting to do more of is using the masking within the program.
So this morning I'm trying out my first efforts at masking. But PP has gone from working fine with the Proxy files I've created to suddenly slowing down to less than a snail's pace.
I create the mask. Create the keyframe so that I can start animating it. But then when I move to the next keyframe it just grinds to a halt. Why on earth is this?
Is there some way of speeding this up before I head to either DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro and ditch this software and save myself some money each month?
The other issue is when the time indicator does move and I attempt to animate the mask, the bottom part can be moved but the top handle of the mask suddenly adds in a nodal point and starts rounding off the mask leaving me with my head in hands and again wanting to just delete the application.
I'm on a MacBook Pro from Mid-2015 which has 16GB of RAM.
Thank you in advance for any help

Can you post a screen shot that includes a mask as well as any relevant settings?

It really is just a simple test that I was doing.
2 short clips from a Canon R5 or around 10 seconds each
each clip has a proxy attached using the low res ProRes proxy
Clicked on 1st clip and choose the free form pen tool to create a simple rectangular mask.
Nothing complicated at all.

You've got a few other programs open. Does closing them help at all?

It's still very slow. Also a screenshot of what happens when I have extended the lower point and then gone to extend the upper point. For whatever reason it starts rounding things off.
Feeling very frustrated as I spent all morning going through my footage. Keywording it and adding in Search Bins. Feels like 3 hours of work up in the air 😞

No need to threaten to move over to DR or FCP. This is a user to user forum.
The lagging might be due to you not having set up the correct proxy files on an old mac.
The so-called rounding off is because the node is a Bezier instead of Linear.
To avoid making unwanted bezier nodes I always start out with a default rectangular and then move the nodes.

No need to activate the stopwatch on the properties if you are not going to use them.
Post screenshot of effects window with right side of the panel opened.

I can't get to my computer right now to see what settings I used. But I followed the advice here https://youtube.com/watch?v=wTW4XDcAO_E&feature=share9

So I used a different Proxy file at a lower setting. It's improved but only marginally. It is still painfully slow and quite frankly unacceptable.
Yes, I maybe on an old MacBook Pro but this is ridiculous for paid software.
Sadly I think it's time to see how Final Cut Pro or DaVinci fares against this utter nonsense 🤬
